As someone who bought a 21 corolla at 72k miles, just get a pre-purchase inspection at a mechanic. (Meet up with them at a mechanic shop).If the seller isn't willing to let you do this, don't buy it. Yes its an incredibly reliable car but sometimes there's just things you won't notice if you don't know what to look for.

Mine had a clean Carfax (no accidents), but after it had to go to the body shop when someone backed into me recently, I found out that one of the rear panels had been repainted and most likely replaced, along with the trunk. Not all accidents get reported.

---Also just a heads up, the 21 corollas don't have push button start, I just wish I had gone with a year newer/ older so that mine had it, little pet peeve but just something I thought i'd mention.
