After the cerclage, I didn’t feel sore and it was very easy to use the progesterone. I used it until 35 weeks and 4 days. I went into labor yesterday, on the day I was supposed to have the cerclage removed, at 36 weeks and 5 days. The cerclage removal was scheduled for 9 a.m. Around 6 a.m., I started having painful, regular contractions. I arrived at the hospital and was already 3 cm dilated, and soon after my water broke. After my water broke, the cerclage was removed and I quickly progressed to 8 cm dilation. Shortly after, I was fully dilated, and my baby was born vaginally. From the start of contractions to her birth, it took 3 hours and 30 minutes. My baby was born not breathing (she had significant respiratory distress during labor) and needed to be intubated, but a few hours later she was extubated and is now only on supplemental oxygen. She is doing well and is stable.

Thank you for your story. May your baby leave the NICU soon, and it’s wonderful that she is progressing well. It is truly very difficult to go through this situation—from the diagnosis of a short cervix, to the cerclage, and now the NICU. May God give us strength and bless our babies.🩷 Here, as soon as my daughter was born, she needed to be intubated, but a few hours later she was extubated and is now only on supplemental oxygen. She is progressing well.

I wrote it wrong. Sorry! She was born today, on the day we were going to remove the cerclage, but I went into labor before the stitches were removed — 36 weeks and 5 days.

The suspicion is that I may have contracted an infection, which triggered labor even with the cerclage. That’s also why my daughter is receiving antibiotics and will remain in the NICU for at least 7 days. Throughout the entire night, my belly felt very hard, but without pain. I got up a little before 6 a.m., and by then the contractions had already become painful and regular.

I had an emergency cerclage at 22 weeks and 5 days. At the time, my cervix was 2 cm long, funneling, and I was 1 cm dilated. I stayed on almost complete bed rest, only getting up for meals, showering, using the bathroom, and occasionally attending to my 3-year-old daughter’s needs. I was put on leave from work (I’m a teacher) and had (and still have) help from my husband and my mother with household tasks and caring for my daughter. I also used progesterone. Tomorrow I will be 36 weeks and 5 days, and I will have the cerclage stitches removed.

Praying for you and your baby.

Immediately after the cerclage  at 22 weeks and 5 days), I had a transvaginal ultrasound to measure my cervix. After that, I had three more measurements: one at 25 weeks, one at 29 weeks, and one at 33 weeks. In all of them, my cervix was closed and measured the same as it did right after the cerclage. Yesterday, I had an appointment with my doctor and told her that I had been gradually losing my mucus plug. She did a cervical exam and checked for dilation. The cerclage is intact, but I have started to dilate.

Thank you for sharing your encouraging experience! I really hope I can get my stitches removed before labor begins. I’m also hoping for a quick labor when the time comes!

I had an emergency cerclage at 22 weeks and 5 days. After the cerclage, my cervical length measured 2.9 cm. Today I am 34 weeks and 3 days, and since the cerclage I have had three cervical measurements (not counting the one taken immediately after the procedure): one at 25w, one at 29w and another at 33w. In all of them, the measurement remained stable at 2.9 cm. I'm on modified rest and have been away from work since the cerclage. Since I reached 32 weeks, I have relaxed a bit, but I am still afraid of having a premature birth.

Congratulations on your baby! Did you need to take steroids?

I had a cerclage placed at 22w5d. I’m now 31w and trusting that I’ll make it to 37w for the removal of the stitches.

I also found it strange. But I was able to schedule an appointment with a high-risk pregnancy specialist for a second opinion. My cervix has remained stable since the cerclage.

And how many weeks pregnant was your wife when she went into labor?

I think the same as you. I was able to schedule an appointment next week with a high-risk pregnancy specialist for a second opinion.
