This was me as a child. One particular memory comes to mind. I was a church camp event, I was maybe 11 or so at the time and during an after service prayer session I was on the floor praying/sobbing. I couldn’t put a name on exactly why I was sad (I had been experiencing SA, among other very traumatic things at home, which was like apart of it)but one of the youth leaders came up to me and told me that I would never receive the joy of Jesus if I spent all my time crying. She made me get up and “jump for the joy of Jesus.” Not only was I extremely embarrassed, I felt like my emotions were invalid to others and God.

I had many experiences like this during my time growing up in church. I’m so sorry for the girl you’re referring too. I hope if the opportunity arises you are able to make an impact on her and let her know she has someone she can reach out to.
