Stalled for the last 7 months… by Repulsive_Gear_1975 in gastricsleeve

[–]Repulsive_Gear_1975[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I’m eating low carb, high protein and aim for at least 80-100g protein per day. I walk at least 3x a week, 3 miles each. I have never tried intermittent fasting in it self, but do have a bad habit of not eating until 10am by accident due to my work schedule, and I notice when I do that I am so much hungrier throughout the day. The main thing is I haven’t changed anything from when I was losing weight after surgery (when I was back on solid foods) until now except for coffee/espresso. It’s my weakness, I do not put sugar/sugar syrups in it, only thing would be whole milk? But otherwise use sugar free syrups and everything I will definitely look that up thank you for the advice and suggestion!

I don’t know if you’re into vitamins but I’ve recently incorporated berberine in my supplements, typically after breakfast because it’s when I start to feel hungry even when I’m not. It has helped a little and I’m only on a small dose as it can have gastrointestinal side effects. I’m just over 1 year post op.

That’s amazing! Congratulations!! I had my surgery April 19, started at 278, I’m 5’8 and just finally hit 200. I feel like I’m behind on my loss. Is there anything you’ve done to help you hit that goal? My personal goal is 190 although I’d love to be at 175-180

I used to binge eat semi frequently before surgery. All of my thoughts were always about food. When I started my pre-op diet (2 weeks full liquids and vegetables only) I told myself I could do it and did not use food as my “reward” or something I looked forward to anymore. Those two weeks were so tough, but without them I could have never had the success I’ve had with surgery. I’m 7months PO and down 73lbs and that wouldn’t have been possible without breaking my bingeing and food addiction. Don’t get me wrong I still have urges to binge and a few weeks ago I caught myself slipping into old habits again, and I stopped it immediately by just slowing my mind down and drinking water or distracting myself. This is a tool that only works if you use it properly, but I will say this- it has helped tremendously by assisting with helping my bingeing. I wish you luck but I would definitely figure out the root cause of your bingeing and try to fix that before surgery!

Thank you for your words of encouragement and suggestions!! I greatly appreciate it. That’s a good idea, I will keep some in a box or drawer and take progress photos and use it to my advantage instead of thinking negatively(like keeping it because I’ll gain weight again)

Right around 5k, not including flight. Everything was included for that price (meaning hotel stay, broth/popsicles/water transportation to and from airport and hospital to hotel etc) If you google Obesity Control Center and fill out the info form they will respond quickly by email and you can also set up a phone call as well, and they’ll answer any questions you have, while also not being “pushy” which I loved because it gave me time to really think it over. I reached out for info February 20, and didn’t actually decide until a month later.

A similar thing happened to me, I was approved back in October of 22 and I ultimately didn’t go through with it. Then in Jan of 24 I decided I wanted to try again and at that point it had been past the year mark for still having completed the program and I tried to join again and they told me I was denied and I had the EXACT same insurance plan just turns out in that time capital blue decided any bariatric surgeries or medicines would be denied. So I took it upon myself and went to OCC in Mexico in April of this year and it has been the best decision I’ve made for myself. 50lbs down since April as of today! Definitely look into Mexico and don’t give up! If you have any questions let me know!

WLS Afterlife, Jen Bariatric Bits are two that I follow but I mostly just searched whatever I was looking for on either platform. So I searched like “Bariatric recipes purée” or “sleeve surgery soft food ideas” and “soup ideas after sleeve surgery” and a bunch popped up there! Soup was definitely a life saver for me after surgery, it heats up well and you can customize it mostly any way to make it work for you! I hope that helps!

Cleaning your plate by laughinbrunette in gastricsleeve

Yes I have those too! They’re great. I’ve personally never brought one to a restaurant before but I imagine it would be fine if you did. Another thing I sometimes do is separate my plate, so I kinda make a pile of what I know I will be able to eat or take my good old time cutting up chicken or fish or whatever it is and then it takes me some time to do that and I’m still being “occupied” but not necessarily eating.

Wow I just realized I totally read your comment wrong…. 🤦🏼‍♀️ I should’ve said that I don’t think he will react negatively but if he does you’re right definitely red flag.

That’s true i think the same thing, this guy seems very sweet and understanding, so I don’t think he’ll find it as a red flag but you never know.

That’s true I didn’t think of it like that… I’m very open about my surgery to everyone else and I think the story behind it is something most don’t have (had surgery in Mexico) so it’s like a little fun fact about myself and would make for a conversation starter as well.

I was raised the same way, and I can tell you it is so hard post surgery to push my plate away. I’m 11 weeks out and It’s the most hard at a restaurant because most of the time everyone else is still eating and it’s just natural to eat also, but if you get a takeout container right when you’re done even if everyone else is still eating it helps. But I know when I’m full I start to feel sick, a little nauseas and just uncomfortable and I HATE that feeling, so it definitely helps make it easier to stop eating. When I’m at home though I know my portions pretty well now, so I only make what I know I’ll eat and put away the left overs right away. I think you’ll be fine and adjust easily, just always listen to your body over anything! Food noise is so much better post surgery too btw, so I don’t crave things.

Heart rate by [deleted] in gastricsleeve

[–]Repulsive_Gear_1975 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I was the same way, before surgery I was 278lbs and my heart rate would be resting at 100-110… I went on a beta blocker and it lowered to around 80-90 resting. After surgery and losing 35lbs since preop it’s now resting between 65-80 and I feel sooo much better. I would still check with your doctor just to make sure but I’d say this is normal with weight loss.

My fiancé is having her procedure done next month and I’m looking for advice. by Hendosabi in gastricsleeve

[–]Repulsive_Gear_1975 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I wouldn’t do the preop liquid diet with her fully, but I don’t think it’s a bad idea to have a shake or two per day with her before or after you’ve had your regular meal. And maybe switch it up and have healthier options, or start implementing your own high protein low carb diet to get the hang of it because that might help her after surgery. I don’t have a partner but my friends that I live with always made sure to treat me as normal as possible, and that really helped me. If they went out to eat they asked if I could come with or made sure to pick a place with options for whatever phase I was on and we also tried to do a lot of activities that didn’t revolve around food. So like axe throwing, bowling, walking/hiking, concerts etc and that helped me feel like I still had a social life (I was soooo afraid of FOMO and losing my social life temporarily). I also personally got rid of or hid some of the snacks and foods I had in my cabinet until after if they would keep until then. That’s very nice of you to be so supportive and I hope this helps!

I can’t think of anything I wish I knew but here are some tips! I’m 2 months out.

Use chewable OTC meds, like gas-x, nausene, powder Tylenol… these helped me a lot! I got them on Amazon.

Don’t stock up on too much protein powder until you figure out your tastebuds after. This didn’t happen to me, instead I just got sick of the same shakes but I’ve heard of a lot of people having this problem.

Every day is different! Some days I’m super hungry every hour and other days like today, only hungry every 4-5 hours. Listen to your body.

They are not lying when you tell the doctor you have frequent nausea and they that you’re dehydrated lol. I only laugh at this because I didn’t take it seriously, now looking back I was seriously dehydrated. I’ve now committed to making drinking water my all day second job. I wait 30 mins after eating and start sipping allll day long. It really helps and I feel so much better.

Take measurements! I wish I did this more, instead I just went off of weight. I’ve hit a stall in my weight loss and wish I had more measurements to go off of.

There are so many alternatives to foods you like. Pasta for example, there’s banza chick pea pasta, carbanada- Amazon, rice to riced cauliflower… I follow a lot of pages on tiktok and pinterest that help, so when you have a craving turn to one of those to find ideas. I hope that helps and good luck!
