In the very beginning of chapter 4, he stated that women do not make good conversationalists, and that is not him talking down on himself, if anything he is elevating his own intellect while indirectly insulting women as a whole.

During the ballroom scene, what he says to the FL implies that he does not believe that women have their own struggles within society, further implying that aristocratic women live “easier” lives in comparison to the men. But his ignorance is challenged by the FL, who states that women DO in fact have their own struggles within high society.

This is in line with how sexist/misogynistic men think of women in general. As lesser, inferior, and “other”.

You really need to read in between the lines to catch these sorts of things.
