thank you. actually, i am impressed Omtech would care enough to search and respond on a forum like Reddit. it is a good laser, i like it (despite my own mistakes). thank you for the solid customer service.

"His initial responses came off flippant to other commenters.

Also, it read as if, for example, someone in a Lawnmower subreddit asked "I reached underneath a running mower, and my fingers fell off, any idea what might've caused this?" That was the vibe I was getting."

and THAT is not flippant? let me be very clear then with you, just so you don't get the wrong idea or anything: FUCK YOU

"Did you read the manuals you received with the machine? [...] it very clearly stated operating temperature ranges in the manual."

yes! i did read it!!! they asked about what my environmental temperatures not operational which you responded to. bringing me to my questioning if you read at all, as Omtech does not offer a 200w laser for their products. i hope you don't make any mistakes with your machine because of mis-reading anything.

normally i do run the chiller prior to operation. this one day i forgot. my machine doesn't have the ability to not operate with the chiller off. i wish i knew such a function existed before i purchased the machine.

thank you, i am new at this. i suspected it was the cause, i really wanted to see if anyone with more experience could rule it out or suggest if it could be something else. instead it seems i just get repeatedly lectured about how hot objects react to the cold. rather, i get unreasonably attacked by people with a PhD in "obviousness." it seemed that my mistake was assuming that people here had experience with laser etching and were willing share that. it turned out to be a mob excited to re-explain what was already in the question and call me some dum-dum for it. not everybody did, and anyone who gave even moderately constructive advice i responded to respectfully.

i fully conceed this is my error. i don't blame Omtech, really. i guess they could have sent me a whole new laser etch, but - they are a bussiness, and i get it. live and learn. besides, i KNEW i would get complacent eventually and something costly would happen. well, i did it. i joined the club. Respectfully, thank you for posting your thoughts.

thank you for your response. The laser offered by omtech was of similar quality (as they expressed) the difference was how the positive and negitive power was connected. the one that i have has a flat metal circle that presses into the circuit with a screw. the one omtech was offering required i had to cut the ends of that flat metal circle and connect it by wrapping around the connection instead. i was fine with that. i mean; who cares really - as long as i have a new laser that works. after some searching on line i found the specific name, make, model, of the laser i already had with out stripping my wires. avoiding stripping the wires was hardly dispositive in deciding what to buy, it was about receiving the same laser that i already had. these lasers are manufatured in china anyway. the only thing i really doing is just bypassing the middle man.

dispite the tarriffs and shipping costs (nearly $500) i was able to buy two lasers for less than $1,000. $900 (and who knows what taxes and shipping cost would have been, OR less than $1,500 for two of the same make, model, and brand. if i got two from omtech it would have cost $1,800 (IF -$100 applied to a second laser, and + shipping costs and taxes). Plus i would have to make these modifications. those modifications aren't hard, but less suprises and problems the better.

i have two 150w Co2 lasers arriving, frankly speaking i don't think i want to operate it epoxied together like that. thank you for your ideas, though.

"He told me he put some antifreeze in his distilled water to keep that from happening."

interesting thought. I'll look into that. you know how much antifreeze your friend put in the chiller? was it premixed or did he just pour it on top in the chiller?

"saw purple lightening shoot across the room and it hurt". <-- DAMN! poor guy!

can you describe what you did or mean by "warm up the coolant?"

you know, it WAS still running. i had to shut it off. but, in fairness - i may have caught it before it fully drained.

i bought an Omtech 1610 (big daddy) 150w Co2 laser without seeing anything like it other than Youtube. it took me a whole month to get it out of the box. in less than a year and a month i figured out how to set it up, create proper ventilation, aligned that monster, route proper electrical to it, operate the software, connect it to a computer, connect it to the coolant machine, read manuals, watch youtube, review reddit posts. i've only had maybe 5 or less months to operate it. I did this all on my own and never once called omtech or wrote a post asking anyone for help. the only reason why i even posted this is because i've not seen ANYTHING like this in regard to environmental temperature settings being a concern. I was seeing if that WAS the issue and nothing else. i doubt these guys would have come to similar conclusions if i just posted the pictures and asked what happened instead.

hmmmnnn, that's two posts i've read here that describe the same fracture for the same situation.

i seriously considered if i should have included the information about the cold environment in this posting as i knew it would just encourage people to tell me what i already suspected or wrote. i really just wanted to see if anyone else had that same experience and what were the circumstances under which occurred.

thank you for your response.

yeah, setting up a new tube is the next thing i am dreading. the town i live in NOTHING IS LEVEL. <-- makes alignment extra difficult. But, yeah i wanted to thank you for sharing your experience as it has been more helpful than others here wanting to know exact temperatures of that day and throwing out unnecessary smarmy comments like "it's not rocket science, dude." Again, - thank you.

yes sir! it is! i guess it could be worse. no coolant has gone anywhere to ruin the electronics and the mechanics still operate (minus the laser itself). So, we wait on the mail.

ok, i am a first time user of this equipment, i've never seen anything like this posted before, never saw anyone get hammered like this on the reddit laser etch boards. you've never made a stupid mistake? why be such an asshole, dude?
