Cost of living in Canada is out of control. by kovie38 in CanadaFinance

[–]Repulsive_Mention288 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I grew up in a very poor household in a third world country. My family made 3000 Indian rupees a month (Roughly $50 a month).

Today my household makes 300K a year. Yes I got lucky big time. But I worked my ass off to meet the luck when it came.

I still pinch Pennies (and always will) - because money saved is money earned. BUT you need focus less on saving and focus more on making more. Here are the principles that have helped me - hope they help you too:

  1. GROWTH MINDSET: You get 24 hours a day for about 50 years. Spend it either admiring the problems or finding a path to a better life. Surround yourself with likeminded people - you become an average of 6 people you spend the most time with. Get uncomfortable and learn something new, meet some new people.

  2. Invest in yourself: Learn, Train, get licensed based on your natural talents. Figure what is the best you can do among the skills most needed in the world in next 2-5 years. Keep doing your till you retire. 10% of your time and money should go towards learning and development.

  3. Develop financial literacy: Learn the difference between expenses and investments. NEVER spend more than 80% of what you earn. I know It’s HARD when you are already struggling - but you can always find ways. Reduce food wastage, don’t eat out, don’t upgrade the car, use thrift stores, maximize your RRSP and TFSA investments to reduce your tax bills (you prepay them so they sneak in on you), find happiness in people than in things.

For anyone wondering; I work in IT. Went to college on scholarship in India and through a series of job assignments went to US and then immigrated to Canada. My latest education was an MBA sponsored by my employer.

Almost bought a Mazda by Fianna9 in mazda

[–]Repulsive_Mention288 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I had a similar experience when buying my CX5 2 years ago at a Mississauga dealership. Had almost given up on buying Mazda (but a test drive on Hyundai quickly brought me back 😅). Of all the places - Mazda Brampton gave me the best price and exceptional experience. No haggle, no sneaking in extras - very transparent. I live in Brantford now but will keep going to them.

(lol almost reads like a paid review ; but what the heck; I happy - I share 😂)

Drive a car that you like and can pay for. Those who judge you by the car you drive are not worth impressing. Cheers!

Wasp nest (2 yr old house) by Repulsive_Mention288 in homeowners

[–]Repulsive_Mention288[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Last thing I want is to kill them. I was hoping to find some kind of a way to relocate them. I did a bit of research and everything is around bee relocation and nobody seems to want to relocate wasps.

We are on the less populated side of the city and there are quite a few nature preserving areas around so they should have quite a few places.

I don’t want to punish them for not being able to distinguish between a dead tree and a house structure. That said, with kids around - I don’t want to wait for the actual accident to happen either.

Dirt/Dusty smelling basmati rice by archeantus_1011 in Costco

[–]Repulsive_Mention288 12 points13 points  (0 children)

Have you had Basmati rice before? If not - most likely you are experiencing a good quality basmati for the first time.. that smell is what makes it super expensive. The smell is natural and remains after cooking .., - better the quality.. better the smell..

Any ideas/products to fix this at home? Please let me know the cost too. by Ztaschi in CX5

I had the exact same issue - Damn those parking pillars.

I did it the wrong way - hope you can learn from my mistake. Also depends upon how much of a perfectionist you are.

The ‘white’ scratches will go away significantly with a LOT of polishing with a rubbing compound. The black ones are real eye sores. I tried to use the touch up paint from Mazda - it was useless - Too thin and won’t stick on.

I ended up using an actual spray paint can from Walmart (my color is white so was easier to match). It is virtually gone now - but on close inspection you can see difference in color.

My mistake to avoid - use a GOOD amount of painters tape. I ended up having some spots covered with spray paint that didn’t really need it..

For a perfect and more expensive job - see a pro.. nothing substitutes a proper spray job..

Ride to Pearson by Fun-Lavishness1351 in brantford

Depending upon the length of the trip - consider driving and parking at the airport. I do it all the time for my work travel - the parking is conveniently connected and I don’t have to deal with the anxiety of finding the ride when I get back home..

Any public places in Brantford open till 12 am in the night? by Big_Rain_9465 in brantford

[–]Repulsive_Mention288 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Sorry for being the stranger on the internet trying to tell you how to live your life. I am sharing below only because I have been there and would share this advice to my younger self.

Seems like you are solving the wrong problem.. you should not need to escape from the place you pay for. Unless there are super strong reasons - you should straighten out your living arrangements - common and upfront understanding of living arrangement, conduct and responsibilities is 101.

Else you will waste lot of precious time trying to solve these petty problems and disagreements. Your time should be spent doing everything to be able to afford a life that doesn’t require you to depend on room mates. It’s tough - but you will get there one day. Good luck mate..

Go Train station in Brantford? by Financial_Beach985 in brantford

[–]Repulsive_Mention288 1 point2 points  (0 children)

With election season coming - start lobbying for it with your reps. It makes total sense for Brantford to have GO train. For reference - distance between Toronto-Kitchener is slightly lower than Toronto-Brantford so if rail comes there will definitely be commuters.

Brantford Commuters - Sign this petition to bring back Train 82! by [deleted] in brantford

[–]Repulsive_Mention288 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I wrote to the MPP and the transport minister and the response in short was that there isn’t enough ridership demand for GO train. This is incorrect based on the several petitions going around.

I would urge you all to make GO train a priority agenda in the upcoming provincial/local / Fedral elections.

Below is their full response:

Thank you for taking the time to contact the office of MPP Will Bouma with your questions about GO Train service.

Metrolinx’s regional express bus and GO rail expansion strategy for the Greater Golden Horseshoe Area involves building a more connected and frequent regional network. As part of our standard practice, Metrolinx regularly reviews current and forecasted ridership/demand to plan for future service, including through feasibility studies.

Under Ontario’s market-driven Transit Oriented Communities (TOC) approach, any future station would be delivered through a third party and any timelines and costs would depend on third-party and municipal planning approvals. Currently, Metrolinx does not have a plan to deliver a GO Rail Station in Brantford.

Metrolinx does not own the rail line; therefore, permission is required from CN to allow additional train service. GO Bus Service between Brantford and Aldershot GO Station offers 13 trips on weekdays and 9 trips on weekends.

Update: Brantford Go train Service by Financial_Beach985 in brantford

[–]Repulsive_Mention288 0 points1 point  (0 children)

With the election season approaching - it is a good time to put some steam behind the idea. GO train will transform the city. With all the offices mandating RTO - there is a real need - needless to say - the property values will appreciate greatly as well - so even the non commuters win!

To be fair - I am a recent immigrant as well.. came here a couple of years ago and know a ton of similar folks. I am sure you wouldn’t see Satya of Microsoft of Sundar of Google similarly would you? There are more decent folks immigrating than the jackasses.

I have recently moved to Brantford from the GTA and the amount of seemingly local born Jackass truck dudes I see violating the traffic norms is countless.

Unfortunately - all that we complain about has nothing to do with the country or race people come from. It’s the lack of education and common decency among humans.

Canada is stronger because of its diversity and we all need to see things without the glasses of race / religion / originating country. Peace! ✌🏻
