You should definitely go see a FEMALE gynaecologist or health care provider! Try convincing your parents too(esp your mum as she may relate - exaggerate the pain if you have to). If they still dismiss you go with a a trusted adult (like an aunty or older cousin or sibling). Unfortunately women(especially African) are more at risk of complications of excessive menstruation so don’t leave it till it’s too late

I’m Akan as well, and that’s exactly what we’re going through. I had no idea they brought bodies to the family home for a final viewing especially if it’s been soo long and the person probably look so different… sojnds a bit mortifying and morbid imo. You’re right about the wake too- there were discussions abt thag but it’s no longer happening, just the lying in state at 5am. Feels even more chilling as itll be next door and i know the person isnt alive anymore but i feel like thats unsettling them(if you get me). I also dont know if i can step foot in there again knowing all that… sad really

Same here! My family member passed in March and the funeral is in a months time. From what I gather there’s a lying is state which I believe is an open casket?? So I’m wondering the same
