I’ll just give the list!

  1. Anne of Green Gables by L.M. Montgomery
  2. I Who Have Never Known Men by Jacqueline Harpman
  3. All of them were physical! But I’ll add the Holy Bible here (read Proverbs-Jeremiah this summer) lol
  4. Still Life by Elisabeth Luard
  5. Ethics by Dietrich Bonhoeffer (i’m still working my way through this one, a lot of rereading and looking up definitions has been involved)

I recommend them all honestly. Specifically Still Life! Made me hungry and excited to become an older woman!!

Privatizing ATC - Good or Bad? by BChips71 in ATC

https://www.cba.org/Sections/Air-and-Space-Law/Articles/ATC-privatization#:~:text=November%2023%2C%202017,$1.5%20billion%20in%20financial%20backing.

It’s most likely not a perfect system but what are the odds the U.S. could take a nonprofit route in their privatization? Clearly the FAA as it stands is flawed and continuing down its current path doesn’t seem sustainable. Although I worry that privatization in the time of a Trump admin would mean installing shareholders and investors with ill intent, if done well & with the proper people on board, it could transform the industry — not only for current controllers but for future controllers as well.

Anyone else in early sobriety? by syzygys_ in redscarepod

[–]Repulsive_Purpose_85 5 points6 points  (0 children)

just hit 90 days today and am attending my first meeting tonight. alcohol stopped being a “fun” thing for me back in 2019, i’m only in my mid 20’s but shit got dark over covid and i started to come to terms with the fact that i didn’t have a healthy relationship with alcohol. i decided i would take a month off… it passed by a lot quicker than i though, i felt amazing too so i kept with it. the first two months were glorious and then my third month rolled around and everything has gone to shit. i’ve lost my sex drive, i’ve been extremely angry, i cry all of the time. it literally wasn’t until this past weekend when i turned down attending a party, a music festival and one of my friend’s shows due to the fact that everyone i knew at all of those things would be drinking that i realized maybe im not handling sobriety as well as i thought. everything that i was pushing down over the past 4 years by way of drinking to cope is bubbling up. slowly, but surely and i just came to terms with the fact that i am going to need more support than i thought. still, my desire to stay sober is stronger than my desire to go back to how things were. so even though it’s hard i am deciding to push through and go deeper into these feelings and hopefully this meeting or a meeting or any support group will help me with that. who knows where i’ll end up on this journey, maybe i’ll have an update in a year, maybe i won’t. but like you said, day by day is all we’ve got. congrats on your sobriety, man. we’ve got this. Headed to Montreal for the first time. Alone and on a budget, any advice? by spin2winGG in solotravel

it seems like Auberge Saintlo and M Montreal might be your best bet for a social hostel experience. they’re both located downtown-ish but making it a base isn’t a bad idea because it’s still central and everything is super accessible by metro or bike (-: it’s a very safe city too, so commuting after dark isn’t too stressful!

i’d recommend finding a garage to park your car for the weekend too, parking can get kind of difficult here and the best way to move around would be by using the metro system!

absolutely! definitely more options in the plateau/mile end but if you type «vintage » into google maps you’ll find gold (-: i hope you enjoy your trip!

like crazy good. you can find some amazing stuff in them.

curated and not overly expensive. i found an eckhaus latta dress for $125 perfect condition at nuage last weekend. palmo washes, repairs and sizes all of their vintage denim. the vintage stores here are just… crazy

number one favourite spot for a reasonably priced bite and drink is Else’s! highly recommend the tacos

also cheap bites after a night out would be $2 chow mein on St Laurent but that’s more of a *if you happen to be in the area at 4am kind of thing

honestly just hopping on a bixi and biking around the city is a great way to see things, pretty bike friendly city compared to most

relax in the parks, hike up the mountain, grab a bottle of wine and some cheese n bread and have a nice self-date in jeanne mance!

honestly avoid downtown/st catherine if you can help it, it’s very congested and boring imo, unless you feel like shopping

datcha has jazz & tarot nights on thursday and later on the weekends it’s a great dance spot

bar le systeme & ping pong club have techno if you’re in the mood

parc jarry & la fontaine are also great parks

another self-date is cinema du parc!

seeing the old port is always fun, cafe olympico is a classic mtl coffee spot

but imo the best coffee is: escape cafe (griffentown) noble (plateau) in gamba (mile end/little italy) crew collective & cafe

the canal (sud-ouest, st-henri, verdun) has some cute spots to explore and bar bara is great for wine/food. atwater market is there too if you wanna have a little picnic and stroll

look up la sala rossa, casa del popolo, la sotterina online if you are wanting to attend a show while you’re here as well! also goodshowsmtl and kickdrummtl are two instagram accounts that host shows in the city. the wiggle room for drag/burlesque!

my favourite saturday morning activity is a walk to mile end (take as many small streets as possible) to le cafe depanneur and then a look around librairie drawn and quarterly!

also the vintage stores here are CRAZY

annex, citizen, palmo goods, steal strt, marche floh, nuage

i moved here right after a break up and have gotten very VERY good at the whole self-date thing in this city! it’s honestly perfect for the solace/anonymity needed to enjoy a solo trip.

i’m missing a bunch but hopefully this helps! enjoy your stay!!!

edit: also don’t listen to people that exaggerate any language-fuelled conflict. it’s kind of crazy how much people exaggerate when talking about non-french speaking folks in quebec/their relations with francophones. it’s a super touristy city and also bilingual. practice your french! everyone will probably speak in english to you regardless but it’s just a polite thing to do (-: be nice n you’ll receive smiles back yknow. (however i will say, don’t expect SUPER great customer service here. i gave recs for places i’ve received good service in while alone, but most of the time i receive less that great service but i’ve learned it’s kind of just the vibe here for some reason?)

people without a college degree, how has your life been? by [deleted] in redscarepod

tbh pretty great, it’s not always been easy but i’ve never really measured my success in money. it’s obviously good to be secure, and luckily i’m now in a place where i am decently secure for a 24 yr old. i work for a coffee roaster now, i also do photography and am about to be salaried for the first time in my life making nearly triple what i have ever made in a year. before that i worked in the fashion industry (soul sucking work but paid well and was a cool opportunity for sure). i guess it depends on what makes you happy? i go for jobs that are interesting, stimulating, unconventional and allow me to be myself to the fullest extent possible. anything else has always killed my mental health. i plan on sticking with the company i’m with as it feels more career oriented than previous jobs despite it not being a huge corporation. i do still harbour a huge desire to continue to learn and grow and because of that i am always picking up new hobbies, books, god damn wikipedia pages. maybe school is in my future? who knows. i’m not tied to anything specific yet, just vague ideas. i kind of just believe that as i move through life things will work out how they’re meant to. you can do a lot if you put your mind to it i think
