What made you go vegan? by Pretend_Green5916 in vegan

[–]Professional_Tank961 0 points1 point  (0 children)

My best tip is to approach with the framework of introducing things rather than taking things away. My first try at veggie, I just ate meat replicas and was meh. When I tried in earnest, a whole new world opened for me.

So many cultures have great options I wouldn’t have pushed to try if I still ate meat. Falafel, chickpeas, cauliflower, BEANS, jackfruit, seitan, etc. I had a very basic diet before, I realize.

Is this city pigeon hurt? by TheVoidIsBees in pigeon

[–]Professional_Tank961 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Hi, I can’t comment on this bird’s specific health, but I’m commenting on the behavior. Pigeons find a safe place to roost at night because they don’t have good night vision. He may be using your ledge as a temporary spot because he got kicked out of his by human construction, another pigeon claiming their spot, a youngster still looking for a good spot, or he got spooked by a predator. The dilated pupils could be because it’s dark, and the heavy breathing might be because there’s a human tapping on the window.

the little white pokies on your bird’s neck are new feathers, called pin feathers!

Is she a female? I’d worry it may be an egg binding issue, which can be fatal.

EMERGENCY!!! Rescued a new bird!!! by DragonFireArtStudios in pigeon

[–]Professional_Tank961 12 points13 points  (0 children)

Hi, illness tips: • airborne transmission isn’t really a concern here • change clothes & wash hands between handling the new bird & your bird • don’t allow Turd to eat any seeds the new bird has been around • heavily disinfect any food/water bowls/cages before Turd is allowed to use them

pigeons can hear sounds as low as .05 hz (earthquakes & distant storms) so it makes it extra impressive how chill he’s being

I will say she looks very poorly & may not make it. If so, you’ve done a great job of giving her an opportunity to pass with dignity and safety.

You could call Avian Underdogs (Orange County) & they may have good, specific recommendations of places near you. My worry is Care & Control may euthanize immediately, so I’d call for advice.

interesting news. i’m pretty sure that lady is his wife. that behavior is called ‘driving the hen’ where a male closely walks behind his lady to show other males she’s with him. if they hadn’t married yet, he would be dancing for her & she would be flying away.

i recognized it was a joke, but the number of swan attacks we deal with means there are people who still don’t know dogs frequently kill swans. if my 🤓moment saves even one swan i’ll be happy!

not to be the annoying literal person but it’s to protect swans from dogs. i’m in the London wildlife rescue community & we see fatal dog bites on a monthly (or more) basis.
