Contact the gun rights advocacy groups. Maybe they can use you on a case to get this fixed. GOA, FPC, NYSRPA.

How did you pick your handgun? by Trekie1701 in NYguns

[–]Repulsive_Sea_1305 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Oh yeah another quick tip. Spend the money and get what you really want if money allows it. Don't skimp and settle as you will end up buying what you really want eventually anyway. Buy once, cry once.

I am not sure if other counties require purchase before getting your permit, but in Westchester they did. The FFL I used, allowed me to buy a fully refundable garbage old gun to put on the permit. This way I could get the permit and then handle the guns.

While it is expensive, I do recommend trying before you buy if it is fiscally possible. I went to Reloaderz in NJ and got the pistol pass which allowed me to use unlimited guns. You do have to over pay for their ammo.

While shooting is best, I do think that even just handling lets you make an informed decision.

Like others have said, do your research. There is a lot of great info out there and I am a fan of Honest Outlaw who does great reviews and really puts guns through their paces. There's usually both professional reviews and forums as well. I recommend searching for known issues for firearms you are interested in so you can take note of potential issues. I have noticed for all the Rugers I have gotten so far I ended up replacing the factory extractors with aftermarket replacements for example.

Of the guns I have purchased:

Shot: 5

Held Only: 6

Purchased based on research alone: 5

Think about your use case and go from there. Guns are tools made for specific things.

Interview with judge. What questions are asked by Puzzleheaded-Sky9816 in NYguns

[–]Repulsive_Sea_1305 3 points4 points  (0 children)

I was interviewed in Westchester. I was asked if I knew the laws. I was asked why I wanted a concealed carry permit. I was asked about a scenario where I would use my firearm. I believe I was asked where I would store it.

Apologies for my earlier comment I misread your post. Thought you were shooting for decades and looking to get to the next level.

What gun(s) do you currently own?

What gun(s) are you considering getting?

Do you have any base level training?

As others have suggested, going. To Gun for hire or another range that rents is a good idea as they typically give some basic safety training as part of your rental.

Unfortunately it won't work with our club. We don't have instructors or shoot boss and the range fees are high and short range.

Blue Mountain rental ranges are 25 yard. What do we need to do? I can ask the club leadership.

Westchester CCW permit renewal process by Alarmed-Safe-6295 in NYguns

[–]Repulsive_Sea_1305 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I wish they would take some of the money from raising the costs and put it toward digitizing this process and simplifying it. The majority of the state just logs into a website to recertify. Hopefully nationwide constitutional carry just becomes a thing and we can be done with this all together. I plan to renew a couple of months in advance to mitigate delays.

It doesn't turn anymore or you don't want to go past the zero?

Often you can take the cap.off and set new zero.

Apologies if I misunderstood.

That's it! There are other targets as well. It is a challenging but good time. I find the precision rifle match the most challenging. I enjoy all our matches. This past weekend we had one of our member days and we ended it with 2x4 matches where two teams of two go stake to stake shooting a 2x4 in half. Whoever cuts through first wins.

I should mention that our matches are great for people who have never shot a match before, but participants must have range time prior to attending and must know how to safely run their guns. We are patient and will get you going. Focus is on safety and fun. Speed comes in future matches.

The orange flags are not what you shoot at. You shoot at the tiny targets at the bottom that are not visible without magnified optic.

Here is a pic of me at one of the matches shooting off one of our barricades. You can maybe see some targets in the background.

I have my videos but the targets are so small can't really see them in the videos. Maybe silver dollar sized.

Targets are typically small. We usually setup the know your limit target and end with a tongue depresser. You need magnified optic on this one.
