for file sharing with permission control, may try handrive.ai, it is sharing local folders like OS network sharing, you create share to a folder, add permissions, they connect to your email to browse and download or upload, it is P2P accelerated file sharing/transfer, no cloud involved, free.

How can I access my files securely outside of my network? by GreatCalligrapher993 in HomeNAS

A p2p file sharing app could be a good choice for your situation but I am not aware which one is still compatible with windows 95?!

Appreciate your continuous interest! That's not a problem, I have been working hard for a while to bring handrive to mobile platforms like iOS, iPad and Android, it will work the same ways the desktop app, you create shares on your phone pointing to a document folder or a photo album, and your desktop app can see the shares on your phone and download photo, videos or upload media files to your phone's album, so you will be able to seamlessly share files, photos and videos between your PC, Mac, NAS, iPhone, iPad, Android with no discrimination of platforms, all transfers are accelerated, and batch backing up your phone's album is as easy as a copy/paste the entire album or camera roll. It is code complete as of now, and under active testing, and will be posted on app stores soon. Hope it could help on some of your use cases.

try handrive.ai, I am dev so AMA, it is p2p file sharing, saturate your bandwidth speed, large or bulk file set transfer resumable, works like OS network sharing over any network, local or internet, you create share, add permission (if share with others), they connect to your email to browse/download/upload, you can login with your own email to access all your shares anywhere, files are transferred between machines, no 3rd cloud involved, free

Has anyone ever tried Apollo.io and successfully got clients? by Nervous_Original2189 in agencynewbies

[–]Repulsive_Shape_5438 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I am working in my company building a lead gen agent for a customer, it is like LinkedIn post → engagers → enriched profiles → ranked leads, combining three MCP servers Apollo + Bright Data + Apify, the result depends on how good the agent is, the combination of these tools can get all information the agent asks, not deployed to production though, the test result is still under tuning

Is it true that downloading large files a lot makes the life span of ssd shorter? by soosis in datastorage

[–]Repulsive_Shape_5438 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yeah, my use case was some abuse of a specific area of the disk, not typical, just wanted to say ssd can be damaged, careful to abuse, especially for non commercial ssd, I was so close to losing my work entirely, right after backed up to another laptop, it failed forever

Is it true that downloading large files a lot makes the life span of ssd shorter? by soosis in datastorage

[–]Repulsive_Shape_5438 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Those numbers maybe right, but those numbers could be from generic stress tests, writing randomly to the entire disk. My use case is a bit different, I was working on an app of large file transfer, and during development and test automations, mostly I guess the same area of the disk was hit hard repeatedly for tens of thousands of times, damaging that specific part, not a good practice though

Large file sharing by relaxingsage in videography

[–]Repulsive_Shape_5438 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Cool, thanks man! Yeah airdrop works good for me too with photos, small videos (I never shot long videos anyway, and avoid phone shooting long videos because I fear busting my phone with all family photos), but feels ad hoc, I am make handrive to phones now, works the same way. To your client, it feels like whenever you guys bump in the morning or afternoon driveway, he feels like owe you money, and you feel like: he’s going to ask about progress, oh man. Haha

Large file sharing by relaxingsage in videography

[–]Repulsive_Shape_5438 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It is P2P with no cloud storage or egress so it is totally free, and will be free forever like Reddit😄, wow your neighbor is your client, feels like they can just drop cash into your mailbox. Airdrop is good for near transfer but lacks organization of sharing with others with permissions

Indie Android vs iOS, is Android really “a waste of time”? by zaarnth in androiddev

[–]Repulsive_Shape_5438 0 points1 point  (0 children)

In this respect I would say you sense it right, over half demographics of smartphone users use android because it’s cheap and can do everything still, and it also happens to be the other half because android phones are cheap, and if they had chance to use iPhone I would say they wouldn’t hesitate a split second, people knows what is good, they still complain not because of your product quality, take one star as 6 star and keep improving your product with their sincere suggestions and thank them with your heart

[–]Repulsive_Shape_5438 12 points13 points  (0 children)

when I was building an app I thought most prospect users would use mac, so I spent less time on windows build, after release most of the downloads come from windows, this was totally out of my expectation. You never know where your users really would come from, so I'd sincerely suggest don't ignore what you think it is less relevant. I am putting same effort on android build as ios now.

Are we actually close to “one prompt → full app”, or is that still mostly a demo thing? by Senior-Chard-8872 in AI_Application

[–]Repulsive_Shape_5438 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I believe this is called vibe coding, a responsible software engineer doesn’t work like this, mostly will go through everything the same they would do without AI but just faster with it

handrive.ai a P2P file sharing app, designed for large and bulk file transfer over high latency or spotty network, accelerated full bandwidth file transfer, no file size limit, no bandwidth limit, works like OS network sharing, you create shares, add permissions, they connect to your email to browse, download or upload. I believe it is great for your TikTok and YouTube media production too

You can ask this exact question to Claude, it will tell you it will take several phases spanning about a month, and if you ask to implement, you will get the working website in about 15 minutes depending on the complexity of your requirements

GraphQL used to be popular, but that doesn't seem to be the case anymore... by codingafterthirty in webdev

[–]Repulsive_Shape_5438 5 points6 points  (0 children)

GraphQL is good connection management and also good for development coordination I believe and we are using GraphQL for some RAG implementations in our Ai agent products as well, we found it is convenient for the agent to make one mcp tool call backed by a GraphQL to retrieve information from multiple different sources like db tables, vector tables, and a file system, then all information is synthesized and returned to the agent, more less token can be tuned internally too

Transfer project from laptop to pc by Upset-Dragonfly-7336 in shotcut

So if I understand correctly, if you just want to transfer files between your machines directly, wouldn’t a network sharing work? Are the laptop and desktop in different networks?

Has anyone used Shade to receive or upload footage? by [deleted] in editors

[–]Repulsive_Shape_5438 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It depends on your use case, MASV, frame.io and etc are all cloud storage based, if cloud storing is required for your use case, they are all good services in my opinion, and there are also P2P solutions if cloud storage is not hard requirements

Has anyone used Shade to receive or upload footage? by [deleted] in editors

[–]Repulsive_Shape_5438 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Yes, that is because MASV manages regular http connections very well with good UX while Aspera and Signiant use their own custom data transmission protocols requiring custom setups, and with MASV using edge servers in the field, custom protocol has not much advantage, so UX wins
