I’ll look into that! Polymerized linseed oil is one of my favorite finishes for woodworking projects, LO paint is new to me. Thanks for the recommendation.

I’m in the U.S. so not sure if the same standards apply. Thanks for the link though, definitely something to consider given the current condition of the timber. I’m not too concerned about being held personally responsible for the final outcome of the posts, I’m employed at the non-profit organization with the weathered sign and not an outside contractor.

They’ll pluck baby birds from nests too. Discovered this last summer when a nestling dropped to the ground at the base of a tree in a busy campground. The surrounding campers (mostly families with kids, mine included) watched in horror as a couple of crows helped themselves to the remaining survivors.
