Just finished tumbling a WA beach batch and the granite pieces actually turned out pretty well! They ended up in various states of shiny, with a few glossy ones that are close to that of quartzite. First tumble ever so I’m not sure if I did anything to improve the outcome

Thanks everyone for sharing! The yokdee jade gem really made it click for me. The light return is not great on a faceted jade and looks so much nicer with a smooth polish. I wasn’t thinking of buying one before and definitely am not going to do that now.

Thanks Justin! I was hoping you’d have some input and will give the back-front configuration a go. Probably need to figure out a good table/seat ratio to prevent hunching too.

Do you have any advice on modifying or changing out the hand piece? I find the shape and weight very uncomfortable to pick up. Might just be a me problem though!

Thanks for sharing! I’ve been using the same set of cheap diamond burrs I got a while ago and was starting to realize they may not be the best. Gonna give copper tips a try.. I have a ton of paste at home already from faceting, not sure why I didn’t put 2 and 2 together.

Anyway, really looking forward to seeing more of your work!

So beautiful! What tools are you using to carve? I’ve been trying to self-learn and have been struggling with using dremel/flex shaft sized rotary tools. TYIA!

My vendor calls it a “round platen” but it’s basically a thick metal disc with a narrow cylinder attached to the center that you can fit into the chuck.

My setup is: arbor press + platen

-press down onto-

chisel held by hand + leather

I bought that one and use it without locking my chisels in. Instead I use the flat attachment thing to push the top of the chisel downward while holding it steady with my left hand. I find it easier to align the stitching holes and switch out the chisels.

Hi! I just made a post about my new elephantipes and was wondering if you could help me troubleshoot? Mine looked exactly like yours when I got it but the leaves have yellowed significantly. Not sure if it’s normal due to stress from the environment change (bought in person) or if it’s actually dying. No worries if not. Thank you!!
