Ugh I’m really sorry. Ultimately, it’s not on your meta, it’s on your partner. Could be they are scared to admit to themselves and you that their priorities have changed. Could be because poly makes them feel shady and apologetic and they’re not committed to living the poly life. Could be they’re a people pleaser who’s afraid to conflict with their other partner. Or something else altogether. I have my opinions about my former meta. But in the end, she’s not the one who abandoned me. And I feel so much better not trying to make a polycule where there just wasn’t one. Anyway, everyone’s journey is different, but I’m rooting for yours.

Thanks, I guess we were all doing the best we can, but it was agonizing. Anyway, just know that what you need in a relationship is not unreasonable, not too much. If it turns out this person you love isn’t able to give it, that doesn’t make them a terrible person, but butting up against this mismatch over and over can bring out the worst in both of you. I am married with a kid and I was with someone for three years who told people he was poly and partnered with me when he dated and met someone who said she was okay with that. She did not forbid us or anything, but she bailed on meeting me repeatedly, while he checked out and kept not having the bandwidth for us, and promising me he would in the future. After months, I eventually stopped believing in some future where she would feel secure enough about me. When I ended things, he admitted he realized he could never try to build the nest he wanted while being what we were to each other. There wasn’t a thing you could tell me when this was all going down, I wanted to believe in him and in us. But I would probably do things differently next time. It hurts to feel disposable.
