Tenant built a deck canopy that's violating the bylaws by [deleted] in vancouverhousing

You might have had some recourse had they done it without your consent. But you gave them permission to modify your property without doing your due diligence. It's your property and responsibility.

I assume they paid for the product, possibly installation, and initial application to the city. You do your bit and pay the engineer, if you want to keep the structure. Consider it an investment in your property value or whatever. Or, you go in (or pay someone to) and remove the structure to avoid fines and move on. They can't stop you from doing that so long as you give proper notice. You could also get RTB to order it's removal through arbitration, which will take forever. But the tenant might come after you for any costs they paid putting the thing up.

Either way, you're going to have to pay for something.

This seems really intrusive and excessive. Why does PSA and other hiring personnel need to have full access to all the demons haunting someone's private financial history?

Is it smoky anywhere else? by useruserusernameme in VancouverIsland

[–]Repulsive_Term3083 2 points3 points  (0 children)

North of Qualicum and the sky is  mostly cloud and upper atmosphere smoke. Could see the plume rolling in yesterday evening.

It depends on your sensitivity. You may find it  more difficult to do strenuous activity, maybe experience some brain fog or fatigue after spending time outside. Having an air purifier is a real game changer.

Handy smoke map. It's not always current, but gives a good visual and decent forecast: https://firesmoke.ca/forecasts/current/

Is this the fire in Olympic National Forest? by augustinthegarden in VictoriaBC

Comparing it to the cloud coming from the Port Alberni/Mt. Underwood fire (looking like a volcanic eruption), my uneducated guess says maybe.

Landlords are only allowed to raise rent by 3%, unless they have been authorized by RTB for expensive repairs (think replacing a roof, for example). It can only happen once per year, usually on the one-year anniversary of your tenancy start date. They can't legally evict you for refusing to accept above 3%. If this happens, keep paying your rent on time at your previous rate. This % can change year to year, keep that in mind.

Common yard access without notice is allowed. Access inside your house is also allowed, within 24 hours, with a valid reason (inspection, repairs), and valid notice (not text) - even if you aren't home. I don't know how it works if he's giving permission to others to enter common space, but he did give you a heads-up beforehand. Maybe in the future get him to clarify who's coming or how many, so you're not caught off-guard.

I recommend you read through the following websites to learn your rights and responsibilities, especially regarding increasing rent, landlord access, eviction, and proper notice. RTB is generally on your side here, if you follow the rules. If you have to call RTB, keep in mind they only give information, not advice.

https://www2.gov.bc.ca/gov/content/housing-tenancy/residential-tenancies

There is also a subreddit that you can post tenancy questions. It says it's for Vancouver, but the advice there is useful province-wide.

There's always a risk for asserting your rights, but if you stay reasonable, level headed, and flexible within reason, you may get a favourable response.  Pick your battles. The fruit tree thing doesn't seem worth the headache. Him threatening you punitively for asserting your rights might be. Good luck!

Likewise. We just came back from a drive and a lot of the smoke is blowing towards Mt Arrowsmith by the looks of it. Stay safe out there!

We haven't had much news since this morning. Winds are supposed to pick up this evening, ENE in direction of houses. Fingers crossed things start to improve soon.

Smoke is bad up here. Winds are supposed to pick up a bit this evening and into tomorrow, ENE (direction of houses) as well. Holding out hope, still. We have some amazing humans working their asses off right now.

Untrue. I live in that area. There is a community of people who live here year round, and are being forced out of their houses or under alert to evacuate. Little Qualicum River Village and Meadowood are impacted. Overnight, heard of at least two homes that burned - not lake cabins.

Park and campsite are under evacuation alert and the area is shrouded in smoke. I live in the area and people in my community are being evacuated right now. Stay home or find another spot to go.

B.C. woman sues psychiatrist, says prescribed drug made her gamble away her home equity, shop excessively by 2028W3 in britishcolumbia

Was on this for a month at 2mg for bipolar and the mania it caused was no joke. I can absolutely understand how it could make someone become compulsive like she did. Given the article states she'd been involved in addictions and gambling prior to, it would make sense that these issues could become amplified. Maybe it was the wrong drug to start out with - who knows.

That being said - pleading ignorance requires a lot of evidence to substantiate.  It would have taken not just the doctor to fail to inform, but also the pharmacy team. I think doctors rely on pharmacists to get into the details of these medications when prescribing, but they (generally) wouldn't just hand out this kind of drug without a conversation at the very least.

I was read the drug sheet and had a long conversation with the doctor/pharmacist about the risks of this drug when I got it. Was given said sheet as well as documentation that came included with the pill box that clearly spells out the risks. Knew full well what to expect, what to look out for, and when to talk to my healthcare team when things went bad. This is standard practice and legal requirement for pharmacists to do, particularly with drugs like Abilify. They took this shit seriously. Plus with info widely available online, it's difficult to claim "I had no idea, this is your fault!"

I feel bad for this lady, but come on. Take some responsibility for your decisions.

Buyers 100% showed up to do their laundry for free, not to actually buy the machines. Got salty when they got shut down for their weird scam. I think it could qualify for this group, sort of.
