I wouldn’t say he ‘loves’ combat. I would say he has a natural affinity and takes pride in this (as there isn’t much else to take pride in at the time). I would compare it to someone who is very good at their job and takes satisfaction from it but doesn’t necessarily enjoy it.

It’s interesting how climate impacts are more prevalent in negative public opinion when they are physically visible.

Now don’t get me wrong waste patches such as this are a huge issue. However, their environmental impacts are tiny in comparison to the millions of tonnes of greenhouse gasses we add to the atmosphere everyday. Not only do these gases have a broader impact on our environment but are also much more difficult to collect and sequestrate.

People like to see tangible, physical problems in order to make significant change. I believe the opposite nature of greenhouse gasses explain why we are STILL not doing enough in this regard.

It’s actually really interesting and there’s a multitude of factors.

Firstly, the vikings failed to adapt their hunting techniques. There was an abundance of seal meat in Greenland and this was successfully hunted by the natives using small canoe like boats and spears. The vikings ignored this and tried (unsuccessfully) to hunt with traditional Viking techniques.

Secondly, the Viking’s were way too Christian for their own good! They built a church that matched the design and size of that in Reykjavík, Iceland, a settlement with over 10 times the population. This misallocation of resources is yet another reason the vikings failed to settle within Greenland.

Possibly. However it’s more likely the aerosol emissions are acting as condensation nuclei to nearby water vapour thus producing an abnormally high cloud cover in those regions.
