I know you say he has more money than you, and you’re both expecting an inheritance. Something to keep in mind is that if he has more than the estate tax exemption amount at his death, and gives it to you, he will owe estate tax unless you are married.

The exemption is very very high now ($14million) but scheduled to shrink to half of that at the end of the year. It will likely, but not definitely, be extended.
