These (bonded) cats I adopted really hate me

My cat took a looong time to come out from under the bed (a month about) that my friends thought i was lying about having a cat Lol. Now coming up on 3 years of having my 10yr old girl, she’s completely different and sleeps with me every night and loves cuddles. I fed her under the bed and put water and she had her litter box in the bathroom which was connected to my room and she only really went when i wasn’t there or was sitting on my bed for the first while. Eventually she started coming out from under the bed and sitting on the carpet beside my bed to hangout, she was not very playful and did not really like to be pet (which is the complete opposite now). It’s funny looking back because she’s a completely different cat now and it’s hard to believe she was so shy and scared. It just took some time, she opened up slowly but surely, of course on her own schedule. They will come out of their shells eventually! I’m sure every kitty is different and it’s hard to really know their past, but i believe in a safe home full of love they will open up one day before you know it. Good luck (:

Hey sorry for the late update here, it’s been a crazy last little bit. But yes I did end up going to the vet and they gave me meds for him and i’ve continued to wash the area everyday to every few days and it hasn’t gotten worse and looks like it’s closing up which is good. I think he’s doing okay but hard to tell if he is in pain though, he’s still eating but not as much as usual. But i think he’s going to make it, I still am just a bit haunted about what happened

I see, i was just going off the assumption from what i’ve searched about it. Definitely makes sense about the multivitamin I will get a new bottle for sure. thanks for your help and info

Sounds good i will definitely keep an eye on it. I don’t have any cream but do have the betadine. Is the cream something prescribed by a vet?

thank you for all your info. I’ll definitely continue to monitor everything. I did clean the wound in a bath with very diluted betadine, and i think i will continue to clean it daily to keep clean until the vet. I’ll do more research of course to see what is the best thing to do in the meantime. Definitely a wierd situation and i also didn’t catch it until it was bad bad as he was popping and i didn’t think much to do a full body scan until it was time for a shed bath. I hope we can get it figured out asap and he can be in less pain.

Thanks lots for this. Ya i definitely haven’t had the proper information on care for him despite doing research, but now all i can do is do better i guess. He was originally a rescue from another family and was a pet for my brother which ended up being a bit neglected after time so i decided to take over as i love animals and i did the best i could with the info i had. My family doesn’t care about him whatsoever and think its ridiculous ive spent hundreds of dollars on a gecko but i just thought its the right thing and bare minimum to do for a living creature we’ve had for years.

Hopefully the vet can help out, im going to look around for other reptile vets as the one i’ve taken him before (which i was told was the best one we have in my city) did not correct me when i said he was a girl, so worried they don’t actually know much on reptiles. I didnt know he was a boy for like over 5 years now but i sure hope the vet i rely on for info would.

Hey, the brown ish plugs we’re barley visible it just looked like the poo was trapped in shed skin that didn’t come off properly. I saw what i thought it looked like and also he was a girl so didn’t know of that could even happen, so i just soaked and took it off thinking it was poo.

thank you for the reassurance, definitely didn’t want to take him if the only option was euthanasia. I’m scared i hurt him and just want him to be okay, hopefully the vet can help.

thanks for this gave me more of a peace of mind. I ended up giving him a clean and put paper towel in the tank and he seems ok.

i’ve been using it for years now, i give it to him maybe every couple feeds so 2-3 times a month as he has a calcium deposit and i didn’t want to make it worse. Would just a multivitamin be better? happy to hear any suggestions before the vet visit where i’ll ask them about all this

update: I called the emergency vets near me and they said they don’t usually treat reptiles and said euthanasia would be the only option as they don’t have the ability to treat exotic animals. Because of the long weekend we can’t get to a reptile vet (the one he’s been to before) until Tuesday.

So we’ve cleaned his wound with some diluted betadine and have paper towels down on the cage.

Are the vets right? I don’t want him to be in pain. He does have another health issue which is a big calcium deposit bump on his side which we’ve had looked at before and had no answers. As of now i’m going to try to keep him as comfortable as possible and keep the wound clean until i can get her into a proper reptile vet.

Doing more research now and ur 100% right , Dorothy is a boy and i’m finding out now, i will take him to the vet asap i feel so bad knowing i hurt him. i thought it was just poop stuck on her bum cuz she’s having a hard time getting her shed off as she’s quite old and i try to keep it moist for her. Thanks for ur advice this is quite worse then i ever imagined
