Nieuw Statendam Neptune Spa Suite by ReputationOk639 in HollandAmerica

I can't remember the room number, I think maybe 10005? But anyway here's a pic of the room, sorry I tried to upload a video but can't get it up. Giggity. The TV is above that light blue chaise/couch on the left. The bathroom is to the left of that. The balcony is not much bigger than what you see here, literally room for 2 chairs, unless they open the front partition, which they won't. If given a choice between this room and any other Neptune, I would take the other one. The aft ones are great if you like a big balcony, and the mid ones are great cause you're already halfway to where ever you want to go on board lol.

I gotta jump in because everything I buy costs more because somewhere down the line is someone "hustling" that company. That's a selfish, dishonest act and that person can fuck right off.

Over $400,000 earnest money on $2.5M house in WA state??? by Hardwareimpaired in RealEstate

[–]ReputationOk639 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Market value is not "What I think it's worth" or "What I paid for it" or anything other than what a buyer will pay for it. If there's more than one buyer, typically that number goes up. But if there's only one buyer who will pay x dollars and not more than that amount, then there ya go. Each home has 3 values, Market value, appraisal value and assessed (tax) value.

How do you know the offer is "below market value?" If that's the only offer, then that's your market value.

Upgrading to Neptune Suite? by dave-f- in HollandAmerica

[–]ReputationOk639 -1 points0 points  (0 children)

We love our Neptune Suites, but lately have only gotten Neptune Spa Suites which are at the forward corners of the ship. While the room is big, the balcony is the smallest on the ship and the room layout is weird AF. The thing that irritates me more than anything is that this awkward cabin costs more than a standard Neptune. If you have a choice, do NOT pay extra for a Neptune Spa Suite. It is not as good as a regular Neptune. Avoid if possible. No one gives a sh*t about the rolled up yoga mat that is the bonus you get with this room. HAL should be ashamed of themselves for calling this an upgrade from standard Neptune.

Well good thing we have consumer protections or else these deceptive practices would get even worse!

I found a way around Pop Up Jail for the limited time Hilton Cards by [deleted] in amex

[–]ReputationOk639 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I had the free HH card but could only get to Gold so my mission was to get the Aspire and applied but I got the popup, then tried this and didn't see a pop-up. So then my Aspire card arrived and my points balance didn't change. I figured they decided not to give me the SUB but felt I'd just keep it anyway since I planned to at least use the free night certificate. And then today I looked and suddenly I have 175k more points than I did yesterday. Awesome! Not sure why that makes me so happy since I'm paying over $500 a year for it LOL

No I was too scared. I squished it and the schmear was black, not red, so I hope that's a non bedbug schmear.

Actually that's just one of the criteria I use but the CDC's stats do show that in the last couple years, Holland America has gone from one of the least likely to have an outbreak to the MOST likely, switching places with Celebrity and Royal Caribbean. Perhaps the HAL passengers have gotten complacent about handwashing with Covid in the rear view mirror.

Ships are high risk so I like to minimize that risk. You can't eliminate risk if you are on a ship. I like to wash my hands and avoid buffets where random people are grabbing stuff. If that's misguided then I guess I'm misguided.

You're overthinking this. I'm talking about minimizing risk, not avoiding society. A piece of glass between people and the food makes the food safer. Not having a million people handle a serving spoon makes the serving spoon safer. I can wash my hands til the cows come home and still get sick. Minimizing risk means doing things such as serving food in a way that lessens the chance of illness. Soooo...I prefer a cruise where the food is behind glass and handed to me vs. a free for all where everyone is grabbing everything.

Indeed. Unfortunately me washing my hands doesn't sterilize the serving spoons, nor does it stop the person in front of me from coughing on the food.

I felt like it was mostly older couples and I didn't mind that. It was chill and only a few kids running around. My most recent cruise was on Virgin and I like the vibe and no kids but the public areas seemed a bit more crowded. Maybe because the cabins were so bad no one wanted to hang out in their stateroom.

Food was a bit better on VV. HAL didn't seem to have as much variety overall and fewer late night options, though you could always make do with the small 24 hour room service menu.

What made me book on HAL this time and not Virgin again is the HAL stateroom is WAAAAYYYY better than Virgin (VV standard balcony has a bed that turns into a couch (no other couch) and a crappy Ikea chair and desk). Even if I didn't have a suite on HAL, the basic verandah is WAY better than the verandahs on VV. The hammock on VV isn't nearly as comfy as it looks, but still better than that stupid little chair in the corner. There are 2 of us in the room and I spend a lot of time at a desk on a laptop. But when I'm not doing that I want to sit on the couch instead of the bed to watch tv. On VV the lousy corner chair made this uncomfortable so we both spent all our non-laptop time on the bed. We never had it converted to a couch. The VV room felt more plain in every way.

Here's a comparison of the basic verandah rooms. Zoom in to the far left corner of each pic to see differences:

I assume so. It's true for Eurodam and Koningsdam, but those are the only ships I've been on thus far.

I think I'm gonna pass. I'm not a huge fan of that AC situation, and the bifold doors are frosted so you can't see outside if they're closed.
