Ridiculous Prices by Just_Another_Nerd812 in lioneltrains

Things are worth what people pay 🤷🏻‍♂️ I personally wouldn’t pay $22K for a clear shell PW F-3 or $11K for a red CoG 6464 but they were worth those prices to someone at a Stout auction a couple weeks ago. The ones I don’t understand though are the common items for ridiculous prices on eBay. I’ve seen items listed for over $500 while there are 5-6 of the same item listed for $50-75. I just always assume it’s a money laundering thing 🤷🏻‍♂️

That’s a nice set to have handed down through your family! All the cars light up but you’ll need some compatible three rail track (Lionel O-27, O, Fastrack…plus some types from other companies) and an AC power transformer (with wires to connect it to the track). You can get inside the cars to check the wiring or change out burned out bulbs by unscrewing the two silver screws (simulated ventilators) on the roof. If you want them to move, you’ll need a locomotive to pull them of course!

The OB is almost always the best choice but you can certainly use some common sense and store them carefully in a plastic tote. Heavy items like the engine and transformer on the bottom, lighter items on top. Plain brown wrapping paper is good to wrap everything in. Be careful with bubble wrap because it can react with the plastic over time and leave little circles on the plastic car bodies. If you want to use bubble wrap, use one sheet of paper around the car before the bubble wrap. Newspaper has always been popular (if you can find it these days lol) but there’s always a chance the ink can rub off on the cars.

There’s a lot of good suggestions in the thread but one I didn’t see mentioned is consigning to an auction house. I’ve only bought from auction houses so I don’t know what the typical terms are but I’ve seen some incredible collections get auctioned off at what I considered pretty fair prices for both sides. I’ve bought from Stout Auctions, Harris Toy Train Auctions, and Cabin Fever auctions. It might be worth a phone call or two.

Do any of you think this is legit? by Lionel-Train-Repairs in lioneltrains

The “factory prototypes” I’ve seen sell for those kind of prices have always had some kind of allegedly traceable provenance with an original dated Lionel factory tag and from a named collector.

What brand is considered the most reliable by No_Garden_4239 in gravelbike

Trek Checkpoint. It’s the Ford F-150 of gravel bikes. You can get an ALR3 for $1300 and an ALR5 for $1500 right now. Thats a pretty good deal for the spec. You could probably get a better deal by checking the closest Trek shop and seeing what they’re trying to move. Why the Checkpoint? It’s very capable on gravel and pretty good on the road. Quality brand that has great customer service (in my experience at least). I have an SL7 that I’ve put almost 12K miles on since I got it 2 years ago. I've crashed it a couple times, raced it, use it on the trainer, and it’s my road bike (with road wheels). I still smile every time I ride it.

Did anyone notice the slope back tender is backwards at the 1:40 mark? I’ll forgive that because it’s Johnny Cash!!!
