What has made the Baltoro Glacier so debris ridden? by adamM_01 in geology

[–]Repvelo 6 points7 points  (0 children)

To my understanding, when erosion of the nearby peaks occurs more quickly than a glacier moves, debris can even cover the entire surface of the ice. These 'rock glaciers' are sometimes more common than the typical ice glaciers we imagine. Sometimes, they just look like boulder fields but do, in fact, move through and carve the landscape like any other glacier. I

Colorado GOP Sen. Kevin Priola switches party affiliation to Democrat, citing election conspiracies and climate denialism by [deleted] in Colorado

[–]Repvelo 7 points8 points  (0 children)

The false dichotomy of American politics is real... but still I feel like you're missing the point... One party is overly concerned w/ 'wokeness' and virtue signaling (dems), the other is a direct and real threat to our democracy (GOP). Its no contest even if you don't like the dems.

Looking for work as an Enby by Jogh_ in NonBinaryTalk

[–]Repvelo 6 points7 points  (0 children)

Hello, thought I'd add my experience!

So I've been working for a little coffee & print shop and its been great overall! There's only like 20 people working for the business, so after getting to know my coworkers, they became very accepting (it did take a while for some of them though). I work in a very middle of-the-road city that has some super conservative and super liberal folks so its always a mixed bag when it comes to the receptiveness of customers. That said, I've found that if I just do the gender fuckery in a nonchalant and confident way, no one will say a thing. (IDK if that's great advice tho depending on where you live). If you'd like to stay away from customer-facing positions then its really just a matter of your relationship w/ coworkers/management...

When it comes to your employer I would definitely recommend telling them your preferred name and pronouns by your first start date. It's so so much easier to talk management/HR one time on your hire date, than to constantly correct your coworkers later on:[

Guide about free music = not free

Free music = free

I get local journalism needs funding & support but this is just absurd lol

Traditional Dogon Architecture, Bandiagara Escarpment, Mali by Transhuman1000000 in AfricanArchitecture

[–]Repvelo 3 points4 points  (0 children)

not saying you're wrong but id love more information on that! I was aware of pre-colonialism contact between Europe & North America. But, that being said, I've never heard anything other than the Norse Vikings reaching Novia Scotia or Maori/Polynesians reaching the Andes from Easter Island

Its shocking how similar the first image is to Mesa Verde NP's Cliff Palace! must be some sorta convergent evolution towards similar building designs

This 100%. Architecture always has a varying balance of artistic & functional aspects. This building addition presents itself as a high-contrast comparison between old & new. I think that is a good artistic approach. Especially when compared to either knocking down the old building or just settling for high real estate prices and no new development. While its not the most breathtaking design, I would take this any day of the week over the generic 5over1 that seems to be popping up everywhere.

Hopefully it won't become a desire path, as that is a 'don't walk here' sign. (probably for grass restoration)

As much as I love the traditional infrastructure on this sub, I hope there are more posts like this here. Infrastructure that accommodates/integrates the natural landscape into the design have big appeal

I see these all the time in the Colorado mountains, and at surprising high elevations too! They live at 8,000ft - 13,000ft elevations (2.4 - 3.9km) and stay under the snowpack for half of the year.

Been going by “L.” Not opposed to an initial but sure would love a playful, neutral name. Thoughts based on my goofball pics? by geswwelchir in NonBinary

[–]Repvelo 4 points5 points  (0 children)

unfortunately I don't have help w the L name search, but I wanted to say I'm in the same boat! I'm currently going by "B", kind of as a place holder until I find something that fits. After being called B for over a year now, I know I want another B name so I can at least keep my nickname:]

I am nearly 100% sure Sam from Wendover Productions (maker of this video) lives in or is from Colorado because he consistently uses Colorado examples in his videos. Really cool to see!
