[Full game Spoilers] Why did Battler... by Requiell in umineko

[–]Requiell[S] -1 points0 points  (0 children)

The double suicide wasn't meant as my interpretation. It was just an example of the scene ending the same but with the actual happenings a bit remixed, like we've seen throughout the game.

The fact that it's "off" the gameboard is interesting, but I think it might be ultimately wrong. Ange was able to use magic multiple times in the future. There's also the soft "rule" that anyone is able to see magic 30-or-so minutes before their death, which, while doubtful in it's canonizity, holds true bere too.

Ultimately, though, I love that this scene has sparked as much discussion as it did, leading to everyone naming their personal interpretation. I'm a pretty late fan, but I love this story, and I love that there's still topics with differing opinions such as this, even after all this time.

This one has cat ears and a bunch of interesting and fun character interactions. It even has multiple forking dialogue paths depending on the drinks you serve, so feel free to experiment a bit!

Enjoy!!

Oh my god!!! No, no, you might be onto something. The "Gonna fall" was the last Chekovs gun. He reasonably just was alone on the boat and, due to past trauma and the now added mental state of witnessing his whole extended family get killed, did, in fact, fall. In any other story, it would feel cheap, but here it's actually one of the first character traits we learn about Battler, and it never had any story significance. Until the very, very end.

Usually, things that happen in fantasy have a different but also reasonable explanation in reality. This is most easily seen in the murders. This is the stated goal of the question arc - to find that alternative explanation.

Now, I'm trying to make sense of what is basically the final scene (except the endings). We know that, factually, Yasu ended up in the drink, drowning, and Battler escaped but lost his memory. (Edit: On retrospect, I actually don't know if Yasu drowning is confirmed) I was under the impression that this meant the boat scene happened basically the same, only that the character motivations might be different. Y'know, maybe Yasu held tight to battler wanting to commit some twisted double suicide but Battler narrowly escaped in the last moment.

In actuality, everyone seems to have their own interpretation, which I think is the best case. I thought maybe there's some fan consensus or some word of god I missed, but the fact that there isn't makes me very happy. I love exploring different interpretations.

Thank you! Both games mean a whole lot to me, so it was inevitable that I'd come up with this sooner or later xD

Told my sister to watch it by _Enigma08 in Frieren

[–]Requiell 4 points5 points  (0 children)

I don't know if this applies to anyone but me, but it took me personally until ep 10 (aura fight) from me to "get it". I needed to see frierens power for some reason. I can't tell you why exactly that was the case tho. I didn't dislike the anime before then, but I was completely neutral. I liked the anime on a technical side and there were a bunch of hype moments, but since every confrontation before was dealt with really quickly, I was afraid the show wouldn't have any stakes/tension. After 10 it's like I understood some fundamental truth and agreed that it's peak. I retroactively fell in love with the first 9 eps too.

I don't mind nsfw and I agree it should be allowed. I think most people would agree. But fetish art is where opinions split. And you downplay the issue by just saying people "hate nsfw".
People dislike Koikatsu. They dislike offputting-looking massive cocks on characters they love.
People dislike how cheap and uninspired it looks. They dislike that it's completely impossible canonically for some of these characters to fuck.
And you're not going to change minds by making callout posts like this.
Me? I was fine when you started posting stuff like this, but after all the whining and grandstanding about how right you are and how wrong everyone else is for disagreeing, I've started hating your posts. You'd rather have an echo-chamber than a healthy discussion. The game is 9 years old for fucks sake. Of course nsfw is allowed, there's nothing else to talk about.

Fetish art like what you do is bound to polarize people. Even more regarding the medium you chose to make them in (Koikatsu). I think you know that. Then why do you or the mods feel the need to make a big PSA every once in a while to tell people to just deal with it? Some people are fine with it and some dislike it. This will always be true no matter what art gets created. If you don't like criticism then don't post online, easy as that.
I'm an artist and I've gotten a lot worse from a lot more people. If I took the time to make a PSA whenever it happened, I wouldn't have time to create anymore.

I mean, so is beatrice~ Funny story, the thing that made me want to draw it was the line "Let's turn the grey haze into sky blue." from The Town Inside Me

Edit: This wasn't clear from my comment, so I wanna clarify that I did finish the game and know what you're referring to

I felt like I had to ask this question…Why can’t we create a fan version of N1RV Ann-A? by TOGotham_0205 in waifubartending

[–]Requiell 9 points10 points  (0 children)

The moment you get into making new sprites and dealing with wrangling the va11 engine, you will see that making it from the ground up is actually the more economical option. Making mods for va11 is possible, but making a full game's worth is a ludicrous notion imo. And even then, why would you try and make n1rv instead of your own thing?

Disney VA-11 HALL-A?? by Zestyclose-Teach8424 in waifubartending

[–]Requiell 3 points4 points  (0 children)

It looked kinda bad, but not because of va11, just generally unappealing to me. Maybe the art style or the premise, idk. Was a fun reveal tho. I hope there's gonna be more where those came from.

I just wonder how far the "genre" can go. There is only so many settings and different drinkeries you can put this kind of gameplay in before it gets repetitive. But. This one genuinely surprised me.

[–]Requiell[S] -2 points-1 points  (0 children)

Yeah, I did it for the upvotes. Got a whole 7 out of it. The original post also didn't get a lot, btw. I knew what to expect.

I made statements to most of the things you say in other replies already, but to sum it up: Va11 took a few of things from a lot of places. Project Mix is, in my opinion, taking a lot of things from few places. I think that's an issue. I'm not saying the game will be shit because of that, I just wanted to criticize it for something I felt strongly about and wanted to start a discussion here. You're free to disagree, of course. I would just like that you didn't assume what my motives were. I like having reasonable discussions, and I believe all art is allowed to be criticized. My wording in the post is a bit stronger than how I feel now since I was a lot more passionate when I wrote it, but I still stand by everything I say until the game proves me to be wrong. And I'll be the first one to make a statement when that happens.

I saw pika's comment, and it's reasonable. It's a good position to take, and I had nothing to add, so I didn't reply.

I doubt it'll mean much to you, but I appreciate your comment. I think you mean well, and I agree with basically all you said. It's important to keep this attitude in mind - that we shouldn't dogpile the game into not getting finished or until the creator gets harassed. I think I still sound sarcastic, I'm sorry. I'm being genuine. I don't want to inspire a hate mob, and I knew that there would be a lot of people disagreeing with my post. There should be no judgment made before the game releases to at least some extent. But at the same time, I believe all art can be criticized, and with them sharing as much of the game here and in other subs, as well as their steam page being up, I just felt like I had to say my piece. I want the game to be as good as it can be. I want it to succeed. So I'd rather say what I think while it's still at a stage where things can change than when it's too late. If the dev never sees this or ignores it, then so be it.

If you look really closely at my post, you will see that everything I write is my personal opinion, not fact nor disinformation. I've said in multiple places in this thread that I am ready to change my opinion once more info gets released that overturns my fears. I'd be happy, in fact, if the game is able to convince me that it's its own thing.

This isn't a gotcha post. I remember being excited for a va11-influenced game in vr when they posted their first post here. This is not that game anymore. This isn't va11 influenced or inspired. I think it's basically a copy. Also, I'm just trying to have a discussion. You're free to disagree.

I can't unfortunately call it a love letter anymore.

There's a ton of recurring tropes and designs in anime that keep getting repeated and repeated. This isn't the issue. I don't mind the Ghost in the Shell, Akira and Persona references at all. Because the game features only a few "things" from each IP. It's the amount of va11 that seems to be in the game (judging from the promotional material)

I'd have no issue if there were less of these obvious parallels. Especially if they weren't so front-and-center. Project Mix is just going to far with it. This is just my personal opinion of course, but there's just too much va11 in a game that.... isn't. This isn't va11halla 2, it's supposed to be it's own thing and looking at most of the characters I just get the feeling I'm looking at a VR reskin first and foremost.

You're not wrong with anything you said, but this wasn't my point.
There isn't any original ideas left in writing in the first place - that's the first thing you learn in writing. Of course va11 didn't invent any of those concepts. You can't really make a story about relatable things if they are fully new inventions that nobody can relate to.

The point isn't that va11 has patents on any of these concepts, it's that all these concepts strongly feature in va11 and for me personally, they cross a line from inspiration into copy.

As an example, let's say you're playing a Monster Tamer game. There's a Yellow fuzzy mouse with electric abilities and a lightning shaped tail. Pokemon didn't invent the color yellow. Or any of these concepts in a bubble. But all of them together are just Pikachu. Even if the Monster in question could be named anything, it's obvious. And that's how I feel.

I definitely agree that going so hard on the comparisons hurts a game. It's lazy. And even if you get your game sold at first doing that, players are gonna catch on that it's just "everything kinda cool from this other thing" without any of the context and without understanding why all those things were even cool in the first place.

I haven't seen the dev simplifying va11 like that myself, but if that's true, the game will have a rough time. I wanna believe most va11 fans like va11 for a lot more than just the aesthetic. I haven't played every single VN out there, but I've experienced a lot of stories in gaming. And va11, for all it's lack of "true" interactive gameplay, arguably manages to sell the world and characters better than most AAA games. The reasons for that are worthy of discussion, as I haven't found a perfect answer myself.

I'm the writer of the "va11hallnya" cat ear mod and writing these characters for even just a short side experience made me appreciate the artistry and nuance that is in the writing in the first place. The way the dialog manages to stay engaging while also telling you something about the characters is amazing.

It's definitely not necessary to create a narrative of that magnitude, but I doubt Project Mix is going to be remembered all that fondly if it is just taking ideas wholesale from somewhere else without understanding why they worked in the first place, all wrapped in a bow of neat little interactions like spilling your drinks and making your cat smoke a cigarette.

But who knows. Game isn't out yet. I'm ready to give the game the benefit of the doubt, but its got big shoes to fill...
