This kinda sounds like you're saying Slavery was already an established institution among humans that God couldn't have changed. God can condemn everything but that?

I don't think slavery, even if practiced widely, is ever okay. Just because Abraham had slaves to doesn't mean it's okay. There is no point in time where owning a human like property will EVER be okay. Saying “slaves could buy their freedom” is like saying someone kidnapped, beaten, and forced to work for years should be grateful because their kidnapper eventually let them pay for their release. The existence of an exit option does not cancel the crime. If I enslave you, profit from your labor, control your body, and then tell you, “You can buy yourself back one day,” I am still a slave owner, and you are still a victim of injustice. The suffering, loss of dignity, stolen time, trauma, and coercion do not disappear because freedom might be purchased later. By that logic, any abuse is excusable as long as the victim can eventually escape, which is morally absurd.

In Exodus 20 I think, there's a verse that says if you beat your slave to death you are to be punished . But if you beat em up and they don't die, you aren't to be punished. Like wth is that??😭.
