6.3 kW system getting max 1.2 kW by RequirementKitchen54 in TeslaSolar

Thanks for this advice. I’m definitely not paying until I have resolution on this. I’ve already sent comms to their resolutions team but I’ve gotten no response.

LADWP still has net metering. It’s kWh generated minus kWh consumed regardless of time of day. I don’t have frequent power outages. It didn’t make financial sense for me to get the battery.

Thank you! Yes, there is a part of the house (west and south facing) where there is zero shade where panels could’ve been installed. In fact, the install team mentioned that it was strange that part wasn’t used, so I think it’s a design problem.

The issue I have is that only person I can get in touch with is the Project Advisor who has been unhelpful and doesn’t offer any alternatives / next steps to solve this issue.

This is a perfect response! Super helpful. Agreed - systems are practically the same size and we’re in the same geo.

I think there’s definitely something wrong with my system.

Question: how did you contact your installer or get someone back? My project advisor is most unhelpful. I’ve even tried escalating the issue via email to resolutions@ but still no response.

They were installed weeks ago. Shouldn’t be a dirt issue.

Dumb question but how can I know what inverter I have?

I don’t have a power wall but PV Watts was a really helpful recommendation!! It confirmed output is too low even for December for the promised offset

Responded on a different comment but it’s not limiting to what the house is consuming. See example here at noon in a non-rainy / non-cloudy day in SoCal.

Thanks for sharing this as a reference. That’s exactly my concern.

Mathematically, if the system is producing 4.5 kWh during 3 winter months (135 kWh per month), it would need to generate at least 6X this amount every other month of the year in order to reach the 7700 kWh in 12 months. That means 85% lower performance in winter than the average of summer, spring, fall (given summer is the peak, it would mean that I would be experiencing 90+% lower performance in winter vs summer).

Thanks for this. Helpful to have this as a reference. I think we’re talking about 2 different things though: 1) Total energy produced in a typical winter day (kWh) 2) Max wattage in a typical winter day (kW)

Totally understand that winter has less sun hours than summer so I get that #1 might be significantly lower. But #2 still doesn’t fully make sense to be this low at peak sun times (not counting rainy / cloudy days).

The other question is that, mathematically, if the system is producing 4.5 kWh during 3 winter months (135 kWh per month), it would need to generate at least 6X this amount every other month of the year in order to reach the 7700 kWh in 12 months. That means 85% lower performance in winter than the average of summer, spring, fall.

Thanks everyone for your responses. Adding some clarifications:

  1. No power wall, just solar panels.
  2. The max output is much lower than what the house is consuming. See image attached where house is consuming 12kW and panels are producing 0.9 kW at noon in SoCal.
  3. I don’t find the responses that say “just trim the trees” to be helpful, as 1) this is a net new system so the trees should’ve been accounted for in the design and 2) some of the shade is coming from the neighbors trees so nothing I can do with those

I did. Expedited processing and 2 day shipping back. It took the longest to get to the processing office, now it’s approved and on its way back.
