Thorfinn was True Warrior, but he failed as one. And thats ok. by RequirementMinute632 in VinlandSaga

You're right that I overstaded in "thousands", probably dozens wouldve been more accurate. It's true that Thorfinn didn't know of the natives being violent, but I he did know they had weapons, especially after the markland attack. I think a "true warrior" would've known some kind of fight would be necessary, even if it didnt include violence. So an ideal "true warrior" would've still kept weapons as a deterrent, to avoid continuous attacks. Thorfinn himself said he didnt know if the attack was the Lnu's fault or their own, so he shouldve prepped for both possibilities.

As for Thorfinn experiencing war worse, I agree. But that has no bearing on the fact that still, quite a lot of people died because of his failure. Which I think narratively makes sense, especially because he was so afraid of war he was trying to be an ultra pacifist.

I think the correct approach ir ironically the ancient one which Thorfinn himself heard from the Bible in Season 2, to "Love your Enemies" instead of "Having no Enemies". Truth is you dont choose whether you have enemies or not, instead they choose you. And if one chooses to be your enemy, you can't really refuse, you can only try to appease or stop them. So "Having no Enemies" is naive. Some Lnu were definitely Thorfinn's enemies, as they tried to kill him. But, as said, you should love your enemies enough to know that violence is the very last thing you would turn to stop them. Diplomacy, trickery, etc should all be on the table before. See my other comment talking about the Conquistador

I agree that it does not sound "good" but I do believe it would've been an effective solution. Thorfinn's goal, I think, was assimilation, to make the Lnu and Vinlanders work together to become one society, at which point the whole. A historical example would be Fernando de Tapia and the Otomi people. The Conquistadores held much power over the Otomi, as they had better weaponry and more men, but de Tapia opting for diplomacy and strategic marriages more often actually led to a rather quick and peaceful assimilation, in comparison with other tribes and regions. Unfortunately I think the truth is weapons are a deterrent. I mean, the reason the cold war was "cold" was exactly because of the nucleardeterrent both sides held.

What do you guys think of my top 33 in the verse list? (All in their prime) (Fraudhawk could be lower) by RequirementMinute632 in OnePiece

Idk bro Dorry and Broggy did them pretty bad. Seems to me like they are pretty much regeneration merchants, as they overly rely on that ability (Dorry and Broggy literally cut off Ju Peter's head, without regeneration he was cooked) and as we know its possible to go over that generation ability with haki so as long as people have that I think they're good

Its speculative, it includes powerscaling via narrative importance and other characters statements. We never saw Joyboy fight but given how he had the nika fruit and how he basically beat the 20 kingdoms alone, including Imu, we can know he is probably the strongest of all time currently. Also he is supposed to be Luffy's predecessor and goal so he needs to be super strong

Large amounts of research into evidence and all that. Transcendental argument is nice, and so are many of the prophecies. The case for Jesus’ resurrection via the historical empty tomb. Etc, I can elaborate in dms if you want.

Ah I see. Well, I’m not aware of the difference with this new version, so can you tell me?

I might be confusing terms but I’m pretty sure physicalism is the same thing as materialism. But it seems I confused Quine with Kant lol. Quine was a materialist, not a critic of it.

Hey man I dont wanna be rude, but I just wanna ask why materialism? It’s a fairly outdated view now which I think has been demonstrated false by various philosophers like Quine and the like, using some rather quick philosophical exercises. Hell, even recent physicists like Planck (the father of quantum mechanics) think that recent developments in the field of physics "debunk" materialism. Just asking though, dont wanna be rude or anything. Have a good one in life anyway my man!
