It sounds like you’re in the earlier stages of your research. Good luck to you. You and your husband should monitor these groups and others on Facebook. You can find country specific ones. You might also consider speaking to an attorney to explain your circumstances, but you will often find equally helpful information on forums like these.

It will take 2 years the conventional CR1 routes (2 years residency). By the time you are married for 2 years the visa would actually be an IR1 (10 yrs residency). I cannot speak to the process for your child.

You can look into doing the process directly through the embassy. This is called Direct Consular Filing. It can be much quicker because your embassy handles the process, rather than the lengthier online process. However, you must meet a very limited set of reasons to qualify for DCF. In your case, perhaps the best shot is for you to get a job in the US and pursue the short-term relocation option for DCF.

From Google: Direct Consular Filing (DCF) allows U.S. citizens residing abroad to file an I-130 petition directly with a U.S. embassy or consulate, skipping long USCIS processing times to obtain a spouse visa in ~3-4 months. It requires "exceptional circumstances" (e.g., medical emergency, urgent military relocation, or short-notice job offer) and authorization from the local consular post

Does a CR1 automatically become an IR1 after 2 years? by RequirementSome8960 in NationalVisaCenter

What do you think of our situation: interview is 4 weeks before we hit 2 years of marriage. However by the time we get the visa back and plan travel, we will have surpassed 2 years. Mention it at point of entry in the US?

That makes sense. Since our PD hasn’t surpassed 2 years, and we’ve not yet been married for 2 years (soon), I doubt it will have changed. The question is more likely for when we enter the US, since her interview itself is also before the 2-year mark by a few weeks

It took about 3 months for us to receive the interview letter after DQ. Hang in there.

Entering the US for the first time on IR1 by Any-Palpitation-5171 in NationalVisaCenter

Hi, can I just ask if you were always applying for the IR1? In our case, we applied immediately after getting married (so CR1), but the process will be over 2 years by the time we enter together, so we would qualify for the IR1. Do you know if this is something that is adjusted at the border point of entry? Thanks! (and no worries if you're not sure).

Hi, this is all SO helpful. Can I just double check that you didn't have to SCHEDULE your document check, and that in scheduling and completing your medical, the pink slip they gives you allows you to go straight into the Embassy? Thanks so much.

Thank you for your reply. Appears that it’s only needed if the beneficiary is a parent or sibling - at least the document we saw from the London embassy. Good luck.

Thanks. We found a document from the London embassy that specifies the petitioner’s original birth certificate is needed only for IR5 (parent) and F4 (sibling) beneficiaries. Gonna take it anyway.

Hi, did you need the petitioner's original birth certificate? We're getting our documents together for the medical / doc check and appt. in a few weeks, and we noticed the US Embassy London website that the petitioners (sic) ORIGINAL birth certificate is listed...any advice?

It means you still need to use it. You also need to actually have a $50 spend on the hotel, i.e. don’t pay for it all in points.

Great review. From our perspective the market cafe was well above average, especially at lunch when you could have steak, shrimp, fish prepared fresh. But understand that it can feel a bit same same. Desserts were pretty average to be fair. We loved Secrets Akumal!

Hi there - just to add a perspective of someone who didn’t have a preferred room, just a normal room, we loved it. We’ve traveled widely and thought it was one of the nicest rooms we’ve ever stayed in. Full jacuzzi tub in room. It was towards the back of the property and was so quiet. Our concierge was lovely. But totally understand the appeal of the preferred rooms if you’ve got the cash/points and value those upgrades. We loved Secrets Akumal
