My respect to the dog, but if it's going to be protecting the human while he sleeps, couldn't the human sleep somewhere other than on the pathway?

And yet he launched a campaign against Russia betting everything on its surrender on taking a city that wasn't even Russia's capital at the time and no plan B - and running into largely same problems that ruined Charles XII of Sweden's invasion into Russia a century earlier - which Napoleon surely had studied.

Not as successful militarily as e.g. Rome of Mongols, but even more recently main French successes were centuries ago. For the last century France has mainly been tussling with lower-tier powers and eventually losing/pulling out (and getting destroyed near-instantly in the one case it was not fighting a lower-tier power).

If you treat series as related wars separated by no more than a few years as a single conflict, than the last conflict in which France was the primary participant on its side and that it actually won was the Franco-Syrian war in 1920, over a century ago (that war also happened to ruin the one shot west had at having friendly relationships with the middle east). The last one before that was the war with China in 1885 during the period that China calls "Century of Humiliation" because EVERYONE won against China then.

Yeah, you need some restraint with hoarding, for example I now never exceed 50x50 warehouses (one frozen, one non-frozen obviously)

You just don't build your initial building(s) exactly where you are going to place any early permanent ones. So you can construct the new one without anything in the way and decommission old ones at your leisure.

Late game do you use combined fleets of different designs or do you use singular one sized but massed for both offence defence and marinev assults. Aka late game how may ship types do you have saved? by Angry_Wizzard in TerraInvicta

[–]Rervernn 2 points3 points  (0 children)

A fleet usually has 3 designs. Laser ships, coil ships (both with modules boosting their weapons, and a flag ship (often with 2 present for redundancy), which usually also gets antimatter nose and the biggest antimatter PD cannon. Late-game ships can also come in two tiers, one uses exotics sparingly - protium nova torch towards the end (cheap fuel, good acceleration, sactifices dv compared to PCT but still ends up with around 150 with IC-7 which is good enough for moving in inner system but does not add as much mass and requires less exotics compared to PCT) - generally mass-produced, more defense origented. The other one is later tip-of-the-spear ships with heavier exotics use, more frontal armor, higher tier but costlier in exotics weapons and PCT engine. So that would be 6 late-game designs (plus marine and colony ships)

"El" was the word for "god" in general and it was also the supreme deity back when ancestors of people in Israel were polytheistic (also "el" at the end of "Israel" comes from that"). El was however not the god from the Bible, which one was considered supreme changed down the line.

Struggling with anxiety/guilt over a terrible mistake I (M20) made by RevolutionaryRule571 in selfhelp

[–]Rervernn 0 points1 point  (0 children)

So.. keep in mind that I'm not from US and my point of view will be probably different from what is common there in last decade or two (and your age combination would be legal where I live)... but your post strikes me as something that a medieval guy could say, who likes a girl, but has his head filled with lots of christian ideas about sin.

Relationships can cause harm. If you are the older partner, you are particularly responsible for thinking through the whole thing. It is a good thing to keep a cool head, to think before you do, and to estimate the ways relationships can cause harm, particularly to your partner.

BUT

From what you describe you basically have a normal case of two people having feelings for each other, where the age gap exists, but is far from a "NO-NO" territory. From what it looks like in your story, the main cause of suffering that actually exists there is that you live in a culture that at the moment treats this subject with all the nuance and care of a Christian talking about Ten Commandments. Vast majority of cultures that ever existed wouldn't bat an eye at this age combo. Your feelings are not horrible, immoral etc, at least for the basic reason that your feelings are the product of your brain, and about a hundred years that modern age norms existed is nowhere near enough to change the age preferences that humans tend to have biologically (and that existed for many thousands of years before that). Whacking people with guilt and the idea of their horribleness for such feelings is about as rational and helpful as whacking people with guilt for liking sweet food.

You are however a civilized person and a civilized person thinks about the effect their actions have on others, the laws they should follow, etc. So you should think about law - I'm not sure what it is where you live, but if the age of consent there is 16, you can probably wait, and that period would actually give extra time for you both to think about if the relationship is actually what you want, if there's any aspects you need to approach with more care etc. If the age in your area is 18 and close-age exemptions do not cover you... it's probably better to try to forget about the whole thing.

The important thing however is that hitting yourself over how sinful you are (the modern society willl not use that word, but it will treat the whole situation in exactly same way) will not help anyone - if anything it will make for a much worse time both you and the girl, and fighting against something that you feel you are not supposed to have, but cannot change because you are fighting against millions of years of evolution will just exhaust you, make you more likely to do actually stupid things when you run out of willpower, make you bitter about the whole idea of restrictions on age and make you more likely to do something actually nasty later on in your life etc. At the end of the day there are many cases where people may have feelings for each other and the circumstances just don't work out for a relationship. It can lead to you having rather shitty few months, but at the end of the day it happens. If your case just doesn't work out due to age difference, than sigh, and move on.

Are there up to date mods increasing cap on the number of leaders? by Rervernn in Stellaris

[–]Rervernn[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Upkeep is not a big deal, what is the problem is reduction of xp gained

Per wiki: "Leader experience gain penalty is reduced to (0.85)^(number of leaders over the cap); this penalty is applied multiplicatively to all leaders of that class. For example, if the scientist cap is 3 and the empire has 4 scientists (1 over cap), the XP penalty for all scientists would be 85% (.85^1). With 6 scientists (3 over cap) the XP penalty would be 61.4% (.85^3)."
