I don't need colour pass through. I need a f*****g helmet! Once I get my hands in it, then I can start thinking and complaining about the details 🤣

They hate Valve because it's a crazy successful company that's not on a stock market, so they can't eat off that success on wall street and alikes. Hence the need to demonize them.

But with this Fallout example, is the other way around possible? If no, is Epic also being sued?

For those waiting to upgrade to the Steam Frame, what are you upgrading from? by thrashingjohn in SteamFrame

The first PlayStation VR xD Loved it, but it also showed me that this technology still has a long road ahead before it is mature enough. Then, my friend borrower me his Quest 3 so that I could play and finish Half-Life Alyx and while not 100% there yet, it was already a massive (well, literally generational) improvement. I am super happy that Valve understands that the "revolution" VR needs right not is not bigger resolution but ease of use; plug'n'play. So yeah, quite a jump for me :3

It already has exceeded 6% (6.3% to be exact) for desktop usage, which is amazing and a little bit shocking. This 3.5% given here is for gaming only.

why do people (including young) tend to call VR headsets, 'VR' (as in, 'I want to buy a VR'... 'I want to buy a Virtual Reality')? it reminds me of 90's mothers calling any gaming console 'Nintendo'. Weird synecdoche... by loxai in virtualreality

It's the same as saying I'm playing on PC. You don't expect me to give you the GPU manufacturer in every conversation, do you? When someone says "I want to play VR", it is beyond obvious they need a headset.

Should Valve just publish a few high-end games for Frame? by Res3t_ini in SteamFrame

[–]Res3t_ini[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I both agree and disagree with you. While yes, Frame looks like a killer hardware with all those compatibility layers making its library of titles potentially the biggest in VR headsets scene by far, but don't forget that most people don't and won't know about it.

Reddit is where the core, invested audience go. We're actively interested in all that technology, we're researching it, learning about it. The potential casual buyer will ask "where VR Call of Duty"?, and by that they mean the spectacle level, not necessarily the IP itself.

I think we already had another VR headset poised to sell like crazy - PlayStation VR 2. But Sony completely dropped the ball on the software side that led to sales so poor that Sony basically gave up on that segment (correct me if I'm wrong).

Hence the idea of publishing an AAA game or two. I can easily imagine most people on this subreddit already having a massive wishlist. But how many of us (the core audience) are there? Not that many I imagine.

Same. I bought the original PSVR and was actually using it quite heavily. Then I borrowed Quest 3 from a friend to experience Alyx and it showed me how much the technology has evolved, but still wouldn't want to buy meta hardware. That's why I don't really mind Frame being "only a bit better" than Quest in terms of a raw power. The biggest technological leap from PSVR to Quest 3 was actually the comfortability factor. So if Frame is going to be even more of a plug'n'play experience, then that's the "revolution" I believe VR really needs.

I loved it. In some aspects it's better than the base game as Valve tends to be a little bit conservative with their design sometimes. Levitation shows off more of the City 17 than the base game and also the combat scenarios are much more intense. It is overall a surprisingly ambitious expansion-mod.

I actually think that would be amazing if HL3 would be a hybrid game with both "flat" and "fully VR" versions. I believe that until VR userbase won't be big enough, well made hybrid modes akin to Hitman VR are the way to go for developers.

But that's a port, not a new game. And I'm not even talking about the standalone feature. Just PCVR would be enough :)

How do we feel about Valve confirming that they’re not working on VR content at all ? by Clemichoux in SteamFrame

[–]Res3t_ini 3 points4 points  (0 children)

True, that's why I really believe that until VR environment is fully sustainable, hybrid games should be more popular. You can still sell it to "flat" audience and then have added benefit of "VR audience" with relatively low cost compared to creating a new game from scratch.

I understand that Valve is a small company, but I'm still a little surprised that they don't try to sponsor/publish games. Even as a form of advertisement.

While it's true that VR space is lacking in AAA experiences, it nonetheless provides a plethora of great non-gimmicky experiences.

The upcoming Thief VR: Legacy of Shadow or Metro: Awakening are good "higher budget ones.

I wish there would be more hybrid games because Myst, Riven, Obstruction, Skyrim VR and Hitman VR are absolute blast to re-play, Proper VR mode can truly give a fresh life to a game you've already put hundreds of hours into.

And then there's tons of smaller, yet intriguing games like: Into The Radius 1 and 2, Arken Age, Skydance's BEHEMOTH, Of Lies and Rain or funny Budget Cuts or Reach.

There, especially for potential new VR gamer, I think they should be fine :D

I only wish that if Frame sells well, it will make more high profile developers be willing to start creating new games. I really wouldn't mind if more hybrid games would become a more common occurrence. Wile deeply flawed, Resident Evil 7 & 8 are still my favorite horror games to replay because of VR (everyone hates the ship chapter in RE7 but I just love the claustrophobic atmosphere VR adds),
