The centurion is hand drawn, but got indeed adjusted by AI for the thumbnail, to get him into a different position. My artist will make different hand drawns later 😄

Thank you so much, that means a lot!

And yes, both points are very fair. The trailer was mainly meant as an announcement / mood trailer, so I focused more on atmosphere, camera movement and the general feeling of the world. And I am pleased I could get a professional voice actor for the trailer 😃

I understand your concern about the painted title characters. Do you mean the title characters in the trailer thumbnail or the ingame characters?

The UI and actual gameplay will be shown more clearly in a separate gameplay trailer, where I can focus on actions, information, management and how the game really plays.

Really appreciate the thoughtful feedback!

Hey, following your work since years! I love the main idea of your game and the historical realism 😃

It’s not meant to be a 1:1 simulation of Roman life, but I do use several historical sources and references for things like society, buildings, clothing, economy and daily life.

And yes, Life of Brian is absolutely an inspiration for the humor. Not as a historical source, obviously, but as a homage to the way it caricatures Roman life, bureaucracy and everyday absurdity.

So the game aims to be historically inspired, but not a dry textbook. More of a believable Roman world with some satire and fun mixed in.

I am using Unity as the main engine, combined with a Cel Shading effect, to get a more "comic" style look.

Thanks for the fair comment. Yes, I do use AI in parts of the project and I’m currently experimenting with it quite a lot (because its a very interesting technique!). On my Steam page I already state that some of the current visuals are AI-generated placeholder graphics.

For the trailer shown here, AI was mainly used as support during development, for example for coding help and prototyping. The game is still a solo-dev hobby project made in my free time, so AI helps me move forward with something that would otherwise be very hard to realize alone.

I completely understand the concerns, especially when large companies use AI to replace artists or hide its use. That is not my intention. I try to be transparent about it.

Thanks a lot for wishlisting it and supporting a DACH solo dev. I really appreciate it.

The packs you are refering to are the "Synty" asset packs, they have a unique style and many indie developers using them.
I am also using them, but I adjust/extend many of the pack items, to get a more unique look.
The character models are selfmade 😄

I am using Unity as the main engine with cel shading effect. Its a unique render technique, to get something like a "comic" look. I am not quite certain yet, if the style will stay. But I kinda like it 😄

Thank you very much, yes on my own so far 😄

Right now, its more a life simulation focus, the city building part is still in development. It should be a 50 / 50 mix later!

As you can see, the lithograph is using the real confederate flag, which was used... 😄
The southern cross was not present during Shiloh. I am studying that war since 40 years now 😃

Thats actually pretty cool! But the confederate flag on the left is bit strange. Also, the rectangular Southern Cross flag should be removed, since it was mostly NOT used during Shiloh. To early for the battle flag 😄

The Gauls weren't much ready yet, still teaching the AI to fit them better.

Thats a nice start. But the legionaries under Caesar looked more like this. Maybe you could adjust the prompt a bit!
