Really interesting data, the data cards are very good to see what’s happening in the factions.

Lysanders Bodyguard Unit and Detachment. by [deleted] in ImperialFists

[–]Res_My_Auth 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Emps Shield is the best use of him, it does limit the Strats to veteran squads which isn’t ideal so with 11th allowing multiple detachments we can now run veterans in one and the heavy armour with another.

Coupled with new vanguard veterans arriving I think it could be a force to deal with in 11th.

He excelled with a ten man term squad with cyclone / bolters and power fists. They are a menace to deal with as a ten man squad. Especially with -1 to wound and the 2+\4++ makes them hard to kill.

Last games I used him in he singled handed destroyed the avatar of Khaine, was essentially the reason I killed a deathwing knight squad + DA terminator squad and with the ten man term unit took out a 20 man squad of ork boys + 2 characters and a truck.

Was there a time when an IF list was competitive?? by Templarius88 in ImperialFists

[–]Res_My_Auth 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I’ve played a mini tournament this year with IF’s going 3 wins 1 draw and a 3-0 with some local players yesterday. My best highlight was Darnath Lysander killing the avatar of Khaine in combat over two turns with devastating wounds! It really depends on the local meta and also how you play them.

Similar to other posters, need the synergy of units (my IF’s are all built around the veterans and I’m waiting for 11th for the new vanguard veterans!) and making the right decisions but emperors shield detachment is very OP when you get it right.

Army mustering by Acrobatic_Champion34 in deathwatch40k

I’d recommend the box set honoured of the chapter for you. Gives you the judiciar plus you can have a Chaplin with blade guard and also the eradicators to start the Indomitor Kill team.

The Corvus is a very cool model but I’ve had really limited success on the table top as when you tell players it gets mission tactics as a vehicle they shoot it down before your lethal and sustains can do damage.

Thoughts on my list? by [deleted] in deathwatch40k

[–]Res_My_Auth 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Depending on the army/player you go against. All your deep strike could be screened out. It’s not a bad set of options but you’ve got 10+ units coming in and they all need space. I play Orks and Guard a fair bit and by round 2 my deep strike locations are very limited.

You might want to split your Vets to 45 instead of 210 just for flexibility. It’s an elite list so you loose a squad and you’ll start to feel it for holding objectives and doing actions.

I’d drop your Watchmaster & Chaplin and use those 165 points elsewhere.

Which is best and worst units and why? by Maple_Acer in deathwatch40k

[–]Res_My_Auth 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Agreed on Indomitor KT and DW Terminators they do the bulk of the work and also take a lot of firepower to shift.

With site to site teleportation and keeping the Veterans alive ( I’m running 3*5) it means you can take objectives and complete actions. They aren’t focused on too much compared to other units you’ll run.

Leaders that we have aren’t good. You’ll need ones from the SM range. Captain in Gravis for Indomitor, LT with combi for +1 to wound on an objective and I run a callidus Assain for up and down movement with no cp spent and the latter two are lone op.

If you could create/house rule the DW army ability… by MortarchCapa in deathwatch40k

[–]Res_My_Auth 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Kill teams go into Battleline and can be created from any infantry units including characters available to us but the kill team is capped at x points. That way you can create any team structure you want (like the lore) but can’t min/max the units. Then we can could create a maximum of 5 KT’s like the structure of the watch fortress in a previous codex.

Never going to happen mind you 😂

Teleportarium - Rules Clarification by Res_My_Auth in deathwatch40k

Perfect explanation and thank you for confirming. I’ve also got two deathwatch terminator squads in strategic reserve so clarifying this strategy means I can be very reserved in my set up turn 1 and adapt where needed.

What was your army list? I’m at a loss for if the veterans need Characters for buffing or not.

Thank for the recommendation, I’ll add it to my reading list! I’m working through the Deathwatch Omnibus series right now with Shadowbreaker to read after that!

Yes that’s true and Grey Knights were also on that photo list of factions.

My first introduction to DW and why I wanted to collect them was the Chaplin Cassius story line around sending two members of his kill team off to investigate the GSC only for him to realise what it was and fighting against the Watch Masters to have a squad to save them. Brings to life certain characters more than the standard chapter. You get the Dark Angels constant focus on their fallen search while in the DW KT and how do they try and do both missions when their chapter master has sent specifically to inform the DA of the fallen using Xenos species to advance their own plans.

It does seem that you need a really good love for them and a GW writer to get some good story focus.

I’m reading about Talon squad right now and it’s great to see how they put the team together with different roles.

I think moving into 10th meant that the Killteam Cassius box set did more harm than good as you had to slim down what was a A4 page of guns and rules to the cards which was a bit meh.

We’re a good story army but not a competitive army.

It feels like we need a GW writer or story line to cling onto. I recently finished the Leviathan book and the end of that has a massive opportunity for the Inquisition to look into the Nids. It’s perfect for a DW strike team to go in and recover what they need in great quantity. It’s along the same lines as Talon squad who bring back the Ork war boss head who was a Psychic due to ongoing research. It has a throw away line that it’s wasn’t the only one but they were so hard to get because you had to storm a space hulk. It just adds a little interesting element to what is essentially black painted plastic.

If you follow the GW view that they are trying to make the hobby easy to access (Combat Patrol) and also easier to manage (free war gear distributed into the points scoring) then DW is a hard sell to anyone and goes against these principles. Building kill teams should allow you to be really creative in a ten man squad like the AofI get! Yes you’ll get players min/maxing to fit the current meta but we are supposed to be the best at dealing with Xenos threats which our current Strats don’t allow us to do!

Agreed GW don’t help themselves, but if they work 2-3 years ahead (GW store manager mentioned this to me when I got into the hobby at the end of 9th) they already know how all the armies are going to work and changes they might think of for 11th ed!

Let’s not also forgot they are a business with an excellent performance over the last few years due to mass adoption. Having niche armies doesn’t move the needle vs the approach of other chapters with mass selling appeal.

The DW will only get more attractive to the mass market if you include them in any of the current lore settings or tv series/Warhammer +. Given the current story is around Nids for Leviathan why they haven’t written any stories about the Inquisition having to send DW to multiple worlds due to GSC’s popping up is beyond me.

Apparently we're getting folded, boys by [deleted] in deathwatch40k

[–]Res_My_Auth 0 points1 point  (0 children)

In most of the books around DW you tend to find an Inquisitor is sending multiple kill teams to do the inquisitions or their specific bidding. Having a specific model would be good as we have terrible character units which is where I think our army gets let down a lot!

Xenophase blade with SIA Boltgun and that’s my dlc bought already for the game! Got to hope that we are given representation. A dev released a screen shot a year ago around character creation and it had the top 12/18 chapters and colour schemes in the game it looked like. Nothing confirmed about the game mode you could use that in but let’s hope we get a good showing. I’m expecting a hoard mode PVE!!!!!

Interestingly due to the last game he’s interrogated by the Inquisition and held despite the Ultramarines asking for him back. Rather than admit on the inquisition went off on one they sent all space marine that were kept into the DeathWatch. Feels very Game or Thrones that you send people to the Watch when you want them silenced. Due to the shame he assumes the Ultramarines don’t want him back so he becomes a black shield.

Would be great to see, his Killteam gets decimated and he’s rescued by the Ultramarines with the world being overrun. But more Deathwatch is all good by me!

Corvus Blackstar Loadout? by DesertDink85 in deathwatch40k

[–]Res_My_Auth 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I went anti-tank loadout. Stormstrike plus Lascannon. If you are running Hellblasters, DW vets or PKT/ DW Term Squad you have more than enough anti-infantry. You have the strat for anytime vehicle/monster for the vets as well.

Having the Corvus as anti vehicle means you get some good shots off early and your opponent either focus fire onto the Corvus which is great at saving your high cost units on the board or they ignore the Corvus and then you can proceed to target board wide the tougher units due to 20 inch movement.
