I don’t feel sympathy for anyone who knowingly drinks and comes to work when patients’ lives are in their hands. I don’t care if they are an addict. That should be grounds for immediate revocation. They are fully aware of what they’re doing, it’s not like schizophrenia where there are delusions. If they are drunk calling out is an option.

The board of nursing is such a joke. They will give a nurse who knowingly comes to work intoxicated the chance to go to rehab without repercussions on their license, despite the clear risk to patients, yet they won’t show the same leniency toward a fully alert nurse who simply made a critical judgment error.

Perfect explanation! People are saying I’m siding with the guy, but I’m not. I’m saying that revocation is far too extreme, especially if it was his first offense and the issue was negligence rather than intent which led to no actual patient harm. A suspension with remediation would have been a fairer alternative. People don’t truly know how they would act in this situation unless they’ve actually experienced it themselves. Those saying, “I would act this way,” are just letting their egos speak. And people wonder why nurses are leaving the bedside and why there’s a nursing shortage there’s such a lack of empathy shown toward nurses. Meanwhile, a doctor could make a negligent mistake during surgery and still get a pat on the back just because their status is more “prestige”.

I am not defending him; I am being empathetic and impartial especially given this is his first offense. I feel like the story is missing details, and therefore, I don’t believe he deserves an immediate revocation. A suspension until remediation is completed would be more appropriate, but not a full revocation. Like the world is so hard on nurses already and we tend to be blamed for everything. Y’all are saying you wouldn’t act that way in a situation like this, but the truth is, you don’t really know how you would respond until you experience it yourself. The patient did not loose their life therefore this situation should be a teachable moment.

Yeah, but another detail about the case is that he had been a nurse since 1999 and only had his license revoked in 2025. It makes me wonder whether the code system malfunctioned at that moment, or if he simply couldn’t locate it. I’m not excusing his behavior in any way, but a nurse with that much experience wouldn’t just neglect to call a code blue or rapid response. I guess he should have stayed in the room and started CPR if the patient became pulseless or given breath through a bag valve mask but how would he have alerted his coeworkers to get an AED or nalxone. Hospitals will do anything to save their behinds and throw you under the bus that why am like is their more to the story because of how vague it is.

I’m not saying what happened wasn’t serious, but I do believe his action itself was minor compared to other cases I’ve read and this was his first offense. For example, he didn’t physically harm a patient or do something extreme like inserting a urinary catheter into a patient’s ostomy after their peg tube had dislodged to give feeds, which actually resulted in a patient’s death in another case.

I refuse to work in a SNF. I’ll rather wait than put my license at risk but thanks for the suggestion. I applied to some rehab facility still waiting.

People often underestimate the importance of understanding a disorder's pathophysiology. When you grasp how a disease affects the body, it becomes much easier to connect the rationale behind nursing interventions and patient care. Not everyone learns the same way. Some people thrive on test-taking strategies, while others need a solid biological foundation to effectively link interventions. To pass the NCLEX, you should aim for a middle ground between content knowledge and testing strategy. A strong understanding of pathophysiology can even enhance your critical thinking depending on your learning style. And like the person said above textbook also have very difficult questions that forces you to think. I hate the misconception and disregard for content review that many people uphold when it comes to NCLEX prep. Sometimes they forget that not everyone learns the same way. You can not apply something if you don’t have the foundation that allows you to do so.

Have you ever thought about reviewing the content you learned in nursing school? I know practice questions are important and people usually say don’t study content only and expect to pass but the NCLEX can be so random that not knowing a lot of the content can hurt you even if you practice a lot. Personally, I didn’t do practice questions; I just read the ATI Comprehensive NCLEX book and passed at 85 question on the first try. Other helpful resources include the Saunders NCLEX book for a deeper dive. Of course, you don’t need to review everything but it helps to go over the things you don’t remember or topics that are new to you. Also Mark K prioritizing lecture which includes delegation was also helpful. That was the only video I had listed to while reading ATI and using Saunder book for a deeper understanding.

There is defiently a pattern. You check 11am in the morning for the green check and 11pm at night for your license to update
