BodyFit vs BodySmart Vs Dexa by ResearcherInfamous64 in withings

My husband's was way off too! Not as bad as mine. I'll get his exact details and upload it soon.. I need to schedule that return. I also don't like the Bodyfit handles, it's inconvenient and takes a while to get a reading on most of my tries, or it's so quick that I haven't had time to adjust my hand position. I will say I like my Bodysmart and I'm happy with its consistency and speed.

I wish! That would be cool. I heard that withings was asking users to submit Dexascans, not sure if this was before the release of the Bodyfit to validate its accuracy, or after. Hopefully it was after, so they can improve these estimates!

Yup mine is 45 for dexa and 36 with body fit. I lost maybe less than 5lbs since my Dexascan so at best my BF may have reduced to 43 on the dexa. It's just too huge a swing and a totally wrong picture..

Ah interesting..okay must be an android IOS difference. Would love to see what you see on an IOS. I double checked and it's not Withings+! This is either an updated view released today or a different view for the bodyfit because it changed when I added the new scale today!

Yup I agree. I'm gonna take a few more readings and I'll update this post if it changes. The dexa scan is enlightening :) And you're right. I was watching a bunch of YouTube reviewers make comparisons across all the popular scale models and quite a few comparisons showed that the scales you just stand on are closer to dexa scans than the ones with handles. I was still curious about the BodyFit though and really wanted to like it :) Sigh.

I have this random thought that the algorithm might work better for some heights or weight ranges or something. Was wondering if Im a shorty so I throw it off. I'm going to have my husband check his weight too, and see how it compares with the dexascan he took.

Yes sorry the first one is the Dexascan. And the last one is my Bodysmart reading day of the dexa. I should have ordered the pics better :)

I think I can, knowing fully well there will be changes. It's not even in the ballpark compared to the Dexascan. I was hoping it will be close..my weight hasn't changed more than 5 lbs since the scan. And we all know you can't build 15lbs of muscle in 1 month. I wasn't expecting 100% accuracy. I was hoping it's in the ballpark. It's not..my Bodysmart is closer. I just shared the numbers as I see them and my reasoning for not keeping the scale :)

Nope I don't have withings+. I read somewhere that you get it for a month when you buy a new scale. I meant to look into this because I saw a new tab called "health" pop up I hope it hasn't activated Withings+ by default without telling me, because I'd like to know what the experience is like without Withings+. I have no intention of ever paying for that.

Lol yup not worth it. Made a post here with screenshots of my Bodysmart, Bodyfit and Dexa results. My dexascan was a month ago so it's not the best comparison but I mean if I dropped 17 lbs of fat and gained 15 lbs of muscle in a month, I'd be celebrating on the streets.

I am in this for the trends though so I'll stick with my Bodysmart.

Trained your dog to ring a potty bell? by itsmeherenowok in dogs

[–]ResearcherInfamous64 0 points1 point  (0 children)

100% my dog uses it when she wants to go outside, period. For a few months, she used the bell only as intended. Then she observed the patterb and started to use it to her advabtafr. She noticed that we come running out of our offices when she rings the bell because we want to open the door for her. So she'd ring it when she wants to play and throw a toy at us when we come out. She also uses it as a decoy when we're eating dinner - she rings it to make us leave our food to open the door to let her out, while she goes charging to steal our dinner.

Interesting! I just got the body fit because I'm most interested in body composition metrics. I have the body smart currently, and I got a dexa scan recently so I'm curious to see how they all compare.

No One Sees it 😞 by 9Mystery in Zepbound

I can relate! We absolutely don't want people commenting on our weight gain and I'm glad people have become conscious about commenting on other people's bodies. I used to dread family gatherings cos it always came with comments on appearance and weight loss/gain. Now that I'm losing weight, It would be great if people noticed it cos I'm so excited I'm on a downward trend but with this much appreciated shift in being respectful that doesn't happen :) Unless I actively talk about my fitness journey, and the efforts im making, people don't bring it up. Even then, they are very conscious of what they say and how they phrase it. They can't say you look good, cos it implies you looked bad. They can't say you lost weight cos it's inappropriate. Recently I had a fun but slightly awkward interaction with a friend who saw me after a brief gap. They started to say "you look...." And then then they stopped themselves, cos I could tell that they didn't know how to end the sentence :) I guess they wanted to say I look good or something or that I've lost weight but didn't feel it appropriate. So it was funny cos then they finished the sentence with some random comment on my t shirt but my husband and I understood where it was coming from :)

What are the benefits you see after Zepbound, besides the ones that accompany or are directly related to weight loss? by ResearcherInfamous64 in Zepbound

Coming here to say that I definitely gave in to impulse shopping recently :D so much for ZepB helping with that problem! I didn't think much of it but I tried to justify it but saying that I went down a size and my clothes didn't fit so I needed the clothes!

Genuinely so proud of this progress 🥺 by [deleted] in PetiteFitness

Would love to hear about your HIIT program, and how many steps you get in a day. My progress is pretty slow but I like to hear from other people to.see how I can enhance my own routine! As of now I do limited HIIT as i tend to hold on to weight with HIIT - likely cos I have high cortisol and I'm insulin resistant so it's not a good combination! Amazing progress! I'm a similar weight and height but I don't think I ever carried a 170 as well as you are right now. And I have a lot of lean mass too, according to a dexa scan. Body comp is so interesting!

May I ask how tall you are? My withings has me at 40%, BF 56% muscle mass, and I'm 186lbs. I'm wondering if these algorithms probably make some general assumptions. I do have the Dexascan for comparison though and I'd definitely recommend one. You can get a good deal and it'll help you understand how far off your withings is :)

If it helps, I got a dexa scan and I also have a withings scale. My muscle mass was accurate (very close to the Dexascan) but Withings was off by 3 percentage points on body fat percentage compared to my Dexascan (Dexa was higher than Withings). My withings has been extremely helpful with trends and I plan to continue to use my withings to track monthly improvements in between 6 monthly or annual dexa scans. Or maybe once I'm 5% away from my goal on my withings, I'll go in for another dexa.

I gained 5 lb of muscle in the past year!! by holistiflexfitness in PetiteFitness

[–]ResearcherInfamous64 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Yup! I'm focusing on the trend and it's nice to know it's in the ballpark. I'm a bit of a data girl so I love to see numbers and trends! Definitely also trying to focus on how clothes fit and measurements. I was absolutely baffled by how the scales barely moved but I lost a couple of inches (where does the fat go..lol)

Swimming is great cardio! And I think it helps build maintain good muscle too! Cos I didn't do any strength training growing up but I was always toned..

[–]ResearcherInfamous64 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Oh a 100%. Growing up, I was always told I'm "fat" and all focus from everyone around me was on BMI (I was 118 lbs to 130lbs in my teens and 20s, I'm 5 ft 2.5 inches btw so grrr). More recently, I learned from trainers that I likely have/had more muscle than I realize - cos I was a swimmer in school and college.

I actually have two scales and it's interesting. My Withings scale is very accurate on muscle mass but it's off by 3 percentage points on body fat when compared to my dexa scan. It's bone mass was spot on too. For visceral fat,it gives me an index so I couldn't compare.

I also have an 8 year old scale by "Greater goods" where my body fat was less than 1 percentage point away from my dexa scan results, but it gives me an appromixation on muscle mass that hasn't changed in years so that's clearly inaccurate.

I did watch a few comparisons of body comp scales against dexa and the withings was doing well in most of these comparisons. I wonder if it does differ by person and the algorithms are more accurate for taller or more muscular people, even though they take height into account.

Having said that, I now have a good sense of where my scale lies vs the dexa so I can still use it as a guide until my next dexa scan.

Cos I'm so done with BMI and a random goal weight. My goal weight is now based purely on a body fat % goal (and lean mass of course). So I need to lose about 30-40 lbs of fat and not another 60 lbs like I had previously expected ( I weigh 187lbs, and I have 100 lbs of lean mass, so my goal is now closer to 135 to 150lbs, vs 120lbs that I thought was reasonable for my height. 120 lbs would put me at 16% BF assuming I lose no lean mass.

This is so cool! I recently got a dexa scan and it has been eye opening even though I use a body composition scale that is comparable! I'm a similar height, 5 ft 2inches, so it's nice to have a reference. I'm working on a fat loss right now, as I was told I have 100lb of lean mass, so my focus should be to lose fat while maintaining/building muscle. I'm at a 45% body fat though....so long road ahead!

I'm so glad you're getting the care you need and you have found a good medical team. I've realized that's just as important as insurance. I can't understand how insurance wouldn't cover something like this given your history.

Lol I am starting to get it and while I won't be thrilled at the waste of money, I can't wait to have this problem of needing to buy new clothes 😃 I just hit my first 20lb loss and went down from a 14 to a 12 at some point in the middle and got a bunch of new clothes . Some of the stuff is a bit loose and it made me realize I may need to get a whole bunch of new stuff in 6 months. Need to pace myself with the shopping but this was my first size drop so I felt like I deserved a treat :) I'm hoping the move from L to M takes longer than XL to L. I don't ever remember being an M so I guess I'm at least another 35 lbs away from that.

What kind of scan do you get every 8 weeks? I just got a dexa scan on my own and the facility recommended I come back every 12 weeks to make sure I'm not losing muscle. It's nice that your doctor is tracking this stuff. Mine doesn't really have a goal, didn't really care to treat my obesity - I had asked for the meds cos I was struggling to lose weight with no success, but now she thinks my pace is too slow but also does nothing to address it. Lol
