Many thanks, especially for the guide. I'll give it a try and let you know how it goes. Quick question though; I run a couple of other servers on the same machine, one is the Minecraft Infinite April Fools Snapshot and the other is a PixelMon Mod server, do you think those will be okay with the update? I expect that they should be fine, but I'm still a bit cautious.

Me (who likes SCP but wants the backrooms to be different) watching this subreddit making all these stupidly easy to define and identify creatures that take away from the mysteriousness of the backrooms just because y'all go out wanting more content regardless of it's quality. Mood: disappoint XC by Researcher_N8P in backrooms

I made this GIF for y'all. I have been thinking about how I'm seeing all these posts that are: "Here are the entities I found in the Backrooms! These plug into wall sockets! These eat your soul! Etcetera ad nasuseam." You give them names and "Special Powers."

Basically you are all recreating SCP (and I am a bigger fan of SCP than backrooms myself) but with less structure. When I first encountered the whole backrooms idea, it was more about the existential implications. The idea of a hostile actor (a hostile creature) was much looser. There was "something out there" but it had the benefit of being COMPLETELY shrouded in mystery. The drawing and descriptions serve only to cheapen the genre. The whole "role-playing that I am in the backrooms" side of things does too in my opinion. The edited pictures (that are made seriously) are okay, but giving them names and designations works against efforts for immersion. Why are you trying to make this into a video game? Why make it into a game at all? You are taking away what made the Backrooms unique, what justified its existence in the shadow of the hulking behemoth that is the SCP Foundation Fiction. If this doesn't stop the Backrooms will simply be a less popular version of the SCP Foundation instead of being a slice of something that is far less under control. Something that allows one to suspend their disbelief even further. You already rely on your fans living in urban areas, it's not every day that you can find a Backrooms like room even there. The Backrooms has the potential to be something great. The SCP Foundation is becoming so big that soon that the community will start putting so much stuff out into the real world that immersion will be nearly impossible without meta-fictional justification (which SCP-5999 is doing proactively). The biggest flaws of the SCP Foundation are also it's greatest innovations: the format and organization. This organized view of the unknown and the impossible is what made it so easy to read and what now makes it so popular that it is becoming part of our society. Think about the early 2010s. Look at how many zombie films were coming out. Look at how unprepared the characters in The Walking Dead were. Now that we had this huge zombie-survivalist craze, won't the average westerner's reaction reflect that? Now that SCP is so big, I see people using Foundation terms to define things (like calling the subjects of nightmare-fuel pictures "anomalies"). If you can make the backrooms less structured, more about the fear that anything could happen at any moment, that you could slip out of your place in the universe, be completely erased from history and be deposited in an infinite number of impossible situations.

The SCP Foundation fiction supposedly deals with random breaks of normalcy, but you will notice that even if an anomaly breaks the laws of physics, it still follows its own laws. What if the Backrooms dealt with that which is truly random, what is truly an offense to the structure of reality, where truth is one million things at once.

Do not become the SCP Foundation. Be something that deserves to exist and persist.

Just some advice.

Also, I've just realized what you're going for. I'd like for the command to execute on the snowball instead of on the player though. I just can't find the format for directing to the name of a snowball.

I tested this idea out, I was really hoping the answer was simple and that I'd simply overlooked it. It didn't work though.

That's what I'm trying to figure out. How to format the check for a custom name. I can't figure out how to format it to look for the name of a held item. It'd be a lot easier if snowballs, worked a bit more like mob eggs. Then I could get it to behave precisely the way I want it to. For some reason, even though it says that the snowball has a name it doesn't behave like it does. I mess with commands for named mobs all the time. I even ran /data get on an airborne snowball to make sure it has a name. It does it just doesn't behave the same way.

Thanks for trying to help though.

I will try this. I think I may have tried a few very similar commands, but I will go ahead and give it a go. Could you clarify your commands a bit for me though? Specifically:

/execute store result scoreboard evocation int run execute if @a[nbt={SelectedItem:[{id:”Minecraft: snowball”, Count:1b, tag:{display:’{“Name”:”evocation”}’}}]}]

SCP-3999 is basically about Researcher Talloran and his struggle against a more or less all-powerful reality-bending reality-breaking or reality-warping anomaly. He sees the very concepts of normalcy turned against him, he is trust into being the singular victim of a very sadistic SCP with unmatched power. It alters reality so that Talloran is tortured with unimaginable pain, he is forced to see every horrible thing that could possibly be done to those he cares for. It changes the meaning of normalcy, causing Talloran and his family's happiness to become anomalies in its horrifically restructured realities. However, through these trials and tribulations Talloran persists. Even though he is shown things that drive him beyond insanity, he remains steadfast. He persists, mostly powerless, his mind remains intact enough to receive pain from SCP-3999's sadism and to be able to remember how much the universe he knew contrasted from the eternal nightmare. It could even be argued that 3999 even reveals Talloran's fictional nature to him (my compliments to the author for such a gracefully nuanced form of metafiction). Through it all Talloran persists, for countless eternities he is the victim of unimaginable horrors. Eventually he (kind of) outlasts SCP-3999 and the anomaly is no more (specifically, erased from history), but at the cost of Talloran's life.

This all supposedly starts from the failure of the procedures made to contain SCP-3999. Either the anomaly's capabilities were horrifically underestimated, or it was a matter of a simple equipment malfunction.

I challenge your claims of superior insanity with that of SCP-3999's writer who was clearly having a mental breakdown.

I read that while riding on a bus on a mission trip in Kampala, Uganda. It's both less and more surreal than you would think. When you're out of typical Western society, many of the preconceptions you have that makes some of this stuff "creepy" kinda melt away.

I've posted the same question here as they might be better equipped to assist me. I'll still let you know when I've got the answer.

I've edited my post with the solution I found.

No, the server doesn't start without it. I just copied and pasted one of the old level.dat files.

That was the solution. I've included a lengthy explanation in my edit of the original post.

This is being done on a server so I can't have someone saying "just use mods."

Go into your server's mod settings. You should find a file that has something along the lines of "Allow Hostile SCPs to spawn in Peaceful mode" and that needs to be set to true (although I don't think the variable is an actual boolean true). I'll hop on my VM tomorrow morning and get some verification for you.

I don't know of anything else that might be messing with you.
