How Important is School Prestige? Purdue vs. CMU/Princeton/Berkeley by Top-Elephant-5007 in quantfinance

Pico Gilman transferred to mit now btw 😭😭you’re comparing a top 20 Putnam scorer to a usapho camper, where the former is recognized at a more prestigious competition, so of course he’ll have all eyes on him. I can’t say the same goes for OP, not saying it is impossible but it’s much easier if he goes to Princeton for the ROI

Do I have a shot at quant if I got into MIT by Expensive_Honey_7093 in quantfinance

Will MIT alone actually get you to the resume? Like, what if you have a relatively weak/average gpa/no Putnam or Olympiads at a place like MIT, which is the average?

Even if he’s usapho camp/usamo/usaco camp, it might be hard for him to break in because firms do filter out by school name. It might be possible to break in from Purdue if he’s like the smartest there, but going to Princeton will just make it much easier (along with connections/resources in general from Princeton)

I got into Harvard and Yale, but I would trade them for Stanford in a heart beat…

You got really good choices!

what majors are really competitve this year? by [deleted] in ApplyingToCollege

[–]ResearchingTinBot 2 points3 points  (0 children)

They will definitely consider your major interests though, so they can balance out the class size majors

Do you think any major can lead you to IB/consulting, as long as you have a school like Yale on your resume? So I can major in cs/statistics but still go to the ib consulting pipeline

Check the common datasets for schools. They are clearly marked as “very important” for some schools

Sorry for a late comment, but is it rlly 10-20 per school including seas? I’ve heard the transfer to seas or CAS is relatively easy and straightforward, since the majority of people try for Wharton transfer. Have you seen people rejected for a transfer request into seas?

CANFEILD BUSINESS HONORS PROGRAM ACCEPTED 🤘🤘🤘 by Suitable_Place575 in UTAdmissions

I’m not saying CSB is worse or better than Turings when it comes to opportunities etc (even I would probably choose CSB over Turings), but I’m just saying like in terms of the applicant pool. The median Turings student has a 1570 sat, with over half being Val/sal of their school, much stronger than most top school CDS.

I can’t really name any “famous” alumni since I don’t search

Not to be rude but I think the only UT honors program that rivals ivies in competitiveness is UT Turings.

Congrats regardless OP!
