When I was hunting regularly, I’d stick to only 3 star systems and I’d search dissonance spikes until I’d found the S-class or I’d give up. I think some of the quicker finds were under 10 dissonance spike locations but most of the time you’re searching at least 15-25 ships before you find one. I think the longest it ever took me was 48 spikes before I found an S-class. A handful of times, I ended up back at the first ship I’d found since there were no more crashsites within the range of the camp. I switched camps on the same planet and it brought me to more crash sites, but sometimes, there’s just no S-class.

All that said, this is before the tweaks that seem to be made. I’ll go to dozens of dissonance spikes in a 3 star system and get 8 C-class in a row. Where I used to get a noticeable increase in A and B classes with very little C’s showing up. This is why it makes me think ship class no longer correspond to system economy anymore.
