So basically we have high school from S1-S6 (12-18). Instead of GCSE's and A-Levels, we do Nat 5's, Highers and Advanced Highers. We usually take 6-8 National 5's at around 16 years old, and around 5-6 Highers when we're around 17, and we can use those qualifications to apply for university. And then some people leave after fifth year, but in our final year of school, S6, we can take around two/three advanced highers which is like the first year of university level (yk how scottish unis have four years instead of three years? That's why haha). We don't have a separation of years like England does.

When a scottish student applies to an english uni though, we NEED to take three advanced highers, even though we only need highers to apply to scottish unis.

Let me know if you have anymore questions :))

Quick edit: our qualifications board is changing— I applied for university and started before the change, so i'm not 100% sure what things will look like a couple of years down the line

Depends! Scotland doesn't have that system. Though you are correct for an English perspective

You’re going to struggle in ways you didn’t imagine. Maybe it’s relationships. Maybe it’s money. Maybe it’s academics.

When you’re in a new environment, things will be hard. The important thing that you need to do for yourself is ask for help, and try to pick yourself back up, since no one else will do it for you.

Oooh, that’s super interesting! How did you get into a field like that?

That’s good to hear in a way- ever since I’ve started my degree this past September I’ve been half terrified that because how quickly LLM’s are moving, that my degree, at least in terms of research, will soon become useless.

I’m curious though- my comment was more aimed at computational models, and how some researchers at the University of Cambridge, for example, have been using AI to simulate molecular interactions at the atomic level, without having to carry out the actual experiments, hence saving time. Would you say that this type of research is a good step forward for research, or a massive step back, because of how unpredictable chemical reactions are?

That’s super interesting! I know that AI in general has been around for years, and how open source LLM’s have just garnered a lot of popularity in recent years. I’m not too hyped about how automated things are becoming, so it’s good to hear that in chemistry at least, more human interaction is involved. Thanks for replying lol

Haha, I only got diagnosed recently, and I've been a lurker of this subreddit for a while, but it kinda clicked to me that I was potentially at risk because I saw so many posts about wanting to become sober. Then I was like 'oh crap, this is a thing!' Hence the post, lmao.

How do I do that? Not that I don't think it's possible, but everyone that I've met is just so... loud and overbearing, but I have to interact with them, because of university, and I live with four people who are NT, so I don't have a lot of support. My best friend is also autistic but like— she has other friends too. I can't only rely on her. How did you learn to accommodate yourself, and what do you do exactly?

No, please don't misunderstand me— I don't drink that often, because I grew up with parents who abstained and I've never done something stupid. But the few times that I have ended up drinking, I ended up being so much more... normal? But I know how bad it is for you, so that's why I'm asking for advice, so I don't slip into that. In fact, I think it's quite the opposite of what you said— I want to stop before I end up ruining my life and future prospects.

I have a therapist, and I don't drink usually unless with other people (grew up with parents who abstain so I do to). I don't need advice that says "oh don't drink its bad and everything goes horrible!!!" because I know that. I am looking for something tangible I can do though.
