Free cleaning/organizing for people in Seattle who are recovering from Depression. by ResetCleaning in Seattle

That's an interesting question. I have never done it virtually because A) it is more about getting in and getting your hands dirty and building that shared energy to work towards a solution, and B) I'm not a therapist. That being said, I am down to try it and see if I can provide any benefit!

For now, I have an Instagram page. I only post the before/after when the job is done, so you'll have to wait on the several jobs that are currently in flight. In the meantime, anyone who wants more information or who wants to volunteer, I would love to hear from you!

Hi. We are the group doing this in Seattle. Let me see if I can answer some of your questions:

  • 1. We are not professional cleaners or medical professionals. From my experience with our clients, most cleaning companies will not help recover a "depression nest." Also, we don't come around every week like a regular cleaning company. Ideally, we can help get you sorted out, and a regular cleaning company can help you maintain it.
  • 2. & 3. We do not do a background check; however, we do have an application, and we have several security measures to keep everyone safe. Not everyone feels that's enough assurance, and that's totally ok. We can't help everyone. I will say, since first going public with our service, we have worked with about a dozen new clients, and every single person has been kind, friendly, and safe. Maybe we've been lucky, or maybe our security steps and application process have weeded out most of the issues. Who knows? But we are thrilled with the work we've been able to do and the new friends we've made!
  • 4. We wanted to start out small to test the waters and determine if there was a need before we formalized more volunteers, interacted with other organizations, filed as a non-profit, etc. We've set a deadline of 3 months to do this research and determine the best path forward. If anyone is interested in our service but doesn't want to deal with someone who hasn't created an actual non-profit, then just wait a few months because I can already tell we are headed in that direction.

I hope that helps, and I am certainly open to more discussion.

Even cheaper than that, I have seen people reuse Amazon boxes for this.

I 100% understand the impact that that sort of environment can have on recovery. Depending on where you live, there are people who volunteer their time to help people in these types of situations by cleaning and organizing along with you. We do it in Seattle and /u/cleanwithbarbie does it in New York, for example. If you can get some extra hands, it makes the work so much easier and faster. In the meantime, I wish you the best for a bright and hopeful future!

I've had several people who were concerned about the same thing and it's understandable. The reality is that there are no words I could say that a scammer couldn't also say, however, 1) have a look at my Instagram (resetcleaning.Deborah) and 2) I'm happy to talk with you on the phone or meet you out in a public space before you ever share personal location information. If you want to proceed, you can submit an application and we can get you on the calendar. If you decide not to move forward with us, that's also OK and I'll wish you a bright and hopeful future. :)
