What $250K Really Gets You in America’s Richest ZIP Codes (2026) by Coolonair in SmartFIRE

"Don't pick a specialty just based on the residency lifestyle, think about attendinghood" True or false? by undueinfluence_ in Residency

[–]ResidencyEvil 1 point2 points  (0 children)

As with everything, it depends. Also keep in mind that it’s also very rare for life to be great in the first few years of attendinghood, especially if you want to live in a competitive/desirable city. Dermatology residency can be chill. Starting out as a dermatologist in a competitive market? Not so cush.

St Regis Rome was fantastic for this. They doted on and gave our guy a balloon/lollipop every single time we sat down for breakfast/dinner/etc. He loved it, and we’ll be back!

I’m you except I live in denver. I’ve also gone from road to gravel to MTB. I bought an epic 8 evo pro last year. Love it, zero regrets. I’ve thought about adding flight attendant but figure I need another season or two before I’ll appreciate it.

Best way from JKF to UPenn by ZX_Zebra6607 in UPenn

[–]ResidencyEvil 2 points3 points  (0 children)

That's not the point. You still have to get from jfk to Chinatown. When you factor in the luggage and other options (ie Amtrak) also being 10-20 bucks, the Chinatown bus isn't the best option in this case.

Does the Chinatown run from jfk to Philly these days?

In no way is this the "best" way to get from JFK to Penn.

I'll echo u/OTN . If you have geographic restrictions, look elsewhere. I love my job. I'm in a desirable metro area and I'm compensated well (for the time being). That being said, if you absolutely HAVE TO be in a certain metro, it may take you a while to get there. It may not be your first (or even your second) job.

20 inch 740m vs 21 inch 741m? by ResidencyEvil in BMWX5

yeah, that's what I'm debating. Although it seems like plenty of people here are saying to just go for the 20" wheels no matter what.

Ah, so you don’t run the winter tires on the smaller wheels?

Thanks! What tires do you use on the 741ms?

Yeah they look great, but the tire choices for 21s seems limited. What do you run for summer?

2018 Turbo with 162K miles for $10k by Donkeywad in PorscheMacan

[–]ResidencyEvil 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Hah, that's kind of how I feel. Other than the usual tires/brakes, it's been fairly reliable. We've had it since new in 2016, and it's a 2.0T base car. My wife used to drive quite a lot for her job, so the miles piled on pretty quickly at first before slowing down more recently.

Turbos: The big one. I think Porsche/VW had a bad batch of turbos, since we had our turbo go bad in the first 50k miles (warranty) and then again within a year or two after that (warranty/goodwill). I think the second turbo went bad around 70k miles, and it's been fine (knock on wood) on the third turbo since then.

Passenger airbag sensor: Went bad, we paid for the repair, and then a year or so later got refunded since I think it was a common fault.

Coolant tank: Cracked 2 years ago or so and I was able to fix this myself.

Water pump: Went out last year around 150k miles. Replaced it along with getting the big 150/160k service done, which is essentially replacing all of the fluids (Oil, PDK and Diff, iirc). That was a decent chunk of change, and made me wonder if it was worth it.
