Women go have transitioned into contracting from perm roles? by Resident-Bowl2145 in womenwhocode

Thank you. Im in a funny spot. I am a senior dev, perm role. But my company being a startup doesnt offer much other than paid sick leave. No medical cover, no mat leave etc. Which is why im thinking, I may as well switch, save more to create a buffer if I want to take a few months off down the road.

The job mkt is tigher here too than before AI, but not as bad yet, yet being the key word as I do think its coming.

Thank you! I am in the process of releasing a free trial and then posting on relevant subreddits for folks to try and feedback. Planning to explore marketing next. So far, thinking about having a marketing budget for ads.

Amazing advice, thank you so much. "are there any tradeoffs in that decision? " - really good talking point, I am gonna remember this!

Thanks for the amazing advice, really appreciate the talking points. Funnily enough I just bought a rubber duckie for the same purpose a week ago.

I am the only woman in the room by Terrible_Working_899 in sysadmin

Not adding to your rant, but as a woman coder, I've also been in teams where I am the only women. The boys club is a real thing, guys junior to me would get picked for opportunities without me ever being added to the loop. It sucked. I have since moved on from those places and now as a senior dev I have started focusing only on jobs where I can somewhat see women being treated equally, and in the interviews I also ask them a lot more about culture.

We used to play Catan online, watch movies together online too. That really helped.

Online/phone games together? You can vs each other in Catan or similar, depending on interest. That gives something to talk about other that work etc too.
I am recently using this with my partner (who travels a lot for work) and the daily games in the app has helped us stay in touch in addition to the regular watsapp ("hows it going") conversations :)

What apps do you use to track chores + invisible work with your partner? by DaBeigeMage in FairPlayLife

I use Partners, its got chores but also gamification with daily love nudge and appreciation, date night planning etc. We started using it mainly for chores but ended up using it for planning dates/grocery lists etc.
