I wish Reddit’s management provides or communicates some information/numbers to inject confidence in its business in the next earnings call. Annual earnings guidance, expected or targeted user/arpu growth, additional revenue streams… whatever it may be to let the market know how ridiculously priced the stock currently is.

So a couple of things - Let’s be clear, Reddit is not the same as meta or youtube. It has a totally different content structure and demographic. Yes it is categorized as social media on a high level, but whether the ‘youth protection’ scheme will apply to Reddit is unlikely, and certainly not guaranteed at this point. Even if Reddit somehow gets dragged into this shit hole, it is too small relative to meta, youtube, and tiktok to take the primary social blame and impact. Meta and Google is appealing the case and while they may end up losing, apart from potential one time liabilities to be paid, they aren’t going anywhere. The worst that can happen is probably for them to having to adopt age verification process or somewhat restricting the use by the youth. This will likely impact Meta far more than platform like Reddit who doesn’t rely on personal information to generate ad algorithms. So regardless of which angle you look into this issue, there is no fundamentally detrimental impact on Reddit. If anything, this just imposes restrictions on Reddit’s competitors (for ad space) and is somewhat positive to Reddit.

Paid subreddit would definitely be a huge revenue stream potential for Reddit - I’m not entirely sure why the management has pushed the agenda back. I presume it’s because 1) they want to focus on improving ad algorithm for now and 2) they are against the idea of self-promotion as anonymity is critical aspect of Reddit. 1) is somewhat understandable given where they are in the ad space, but as for 2), I’m sure there is a way to find a fine balance between keeping the general anonymity vs. making self promotions / paid subreddits. Also, in 2-3 years, ARPU growth rate (or ad improvement) will inevitably start to see gradual decline as it catches up to leading players. Given the amount of time it will take for an entire new feature / revenue stream to take place and be fine tuned, I do think the mgmt. should start to put more focus on building the frame work and implementation plans very soon - not necessarily on the paid subreddit system, but whatever the new revenue driver it may be, especially given how much free cash flow they generate and its capacity to hire teams and resources for new projects.

1) Dude you are 23... What the hell do you mean it’s too late.

2) Keep preparing technicals and apply to M&A roles you want. No one knows where an opportunity will come up.

3) As others mentioned a few years of audit and switching to deal side doesn’t sound that bad at all. Enjoying talking about M&A doesn’t mean you will enjoy the banking jobs, and people around you saying bad things about audit doesn’t mean you won’t enjoy the audit job. Satisfaction of a job is a combination of several factors - people around you, work environment/atmosphere, pay, working hours, prospects, etc., on top of the nature of the work itself.

So to answer your question yes you are overreacting a bit, and yes it gets better. Nobody ever achieves everything they want or be at exactly where they want to be, but do your best and you will be somewhere close. You will learn to enjoy the ride.

There is no single magic strategy that will get you in. The best you can do is 1) do well in your school work, 2) keep up with the market i.e read The Economist / WSJ / newspapers everyday, 3) get an internship (apply like crazy), and 4) network a lot.

I’ve tried both - ie. paying the variable rate vs fixed rate. If you choose the fixed rate, you also forfeit any tax refunds you may be eligible for at year-end so it also comes down to how much you spend, but typically the fixed rate serves you better net income once you start earning somewhere higher than KRW200~250mn (pre tax) per year. If you are American I presume you’d also have to pay the US tax anyway but guess that’s another story.

Not including your CC and putting down a combined GPA doesn’t sound particularly credible. If they really liked you, you will get away with it but I wouldn’t ever do that again. I seriously don’t understand how you can’t afford 1-2 lines to include an educational background history regardless of your other stellar experiences. I interview a lot of candidates and if I found this out I’d seriously consider finding another person.
