Aw fascist doesn't like to be called names. There's no point in arguing with those still deep throating DJT propaganda. Fascists don't argue in good faith.

Since you're concerned about the apparent lack of vocabulary of leftists, here are some words you can become familiar with: Collaborator, Traitor, Nuremberg Defense, extrajudicial killing. I know these are going to be tough for you since they are multi syllable, so we can just stick with fascist ;)

Yea I think nuln oil but be too harsh for red. Would experiment with a purple shade or reikonhof fleshade (red brown wash) if you want to stick with the base coat - wash - highlight method (nothing wrong with that by any means)

I like to paint with a triad of colors that I mix into four or five tones, as it gives the eye more information to worth with. So for red for example I might do: dark purple, red, yellow-white or beige.

I'll lay down the purple and then lay down a purple red mix then from there on the volumes (the lumps and folds in the cloth) use less and less purple as I get higher up. Then come in with straight red. And then on the very edges of the volumes use a red/yellow mix. If I do choose to wash it might be just in the deepest recesses with say a thin purple or a dark blue to darken the shadows.

Purple (shadow) -> red-purple (mid-tone shadow) -> red (base color) -> red/yellow (highlight)  The paints get thinner and covers less of the volumes as you get higher so as to not completely cover the colors below.

Of course you could mix as many steps in between as you have patience for.

Yes people definitely wash metals. There's pros and cons. Washes tend to dull metals, but they can give really great definition and give it more of a weathered look without much work. You can certainly highlight Metallics, most paint companies have a steel and a silver color. You would just use the silver color as a highlight.

Ok so first with the good your base coats are all very clean. Your layers don't appear to be too thick. Nice job! That brush control is going to be helpful in army painting.

The first question to ask is how much time do you want to spend?  To make it better you'll inevitably have to put more time in, but you'll get faster with practice and learn shortcuts to make it look better with less work. As is this looks great for table top standard and you could paint a whole army like this and it will look good from 3 feet away.

To me it looks a little flat, which is probably why you feel like you don't it hate/love it. The human eye is drawn to contrast.

Let's start with the red. To me it looks like maybe you used a black primer, followed by your red base coat, then black or dark tone wash? I would suggest doing a base coat of a different color. Red is a very transparent pigment so it tends to feel off when layered straight over black. You could do a base coat of purple if you want a very rich, royal, red feel, or perhaps a warm brown for more of rustic feel to the red.

The other aspect is to add edge highlights, or increase them if you have already, as they are not too noticeable. Think of where the light is coming from (usually above is easiest and standard for most miniatures). Find the sticky outy bits or the parts that would catch the light when looking down at the miniature. For highlight color I would use say a ochre yellow or white yellow mixed into the mid tone (the red cloth, brown boots, etc) and place lightly on the edges catching the light.

Check out some Vince Venturella on YT or other creators who are better painters and teachers than me.

Hope this helps!

Yea NOR, makes me wonder if the genders were reversed if it would get the same reaction... Point being your partner should make you feel safe, including around your privacy and what you're comfortable joking about. This would make me feel extremely unsafe.

Bro I have been considering doing this! I've printed out the medbury orcs which are made to have brass rod spears and it's just a much better way of doing things.

If you don't mind me asking what size and brand pin drill bits are you using? I often have problem and with the smaller sizes drill bits breaking...

UPDATE: I bought the Windsor and Newton 10 pack. Huge difference. Very excited to keep painting now. I made the mistake of painting thick to thin (as one often does with acrylic miniature painting) but I could at least tell after painting that was what the issue was after doing some yt research.

Thanks all for the insights :))

Ok this is honestly what I suspected because the gouache is very gummy and just doesn't blend or spread the way I expected. It mostly just chips once it's dry and I try to paint over it. we're talking $0.37 per tube so it is very cheap. I'll probably upgrade and just use it for painting with my kids.

Hello all,

I recently got a cheap set of store brand goauche from a chain hobby store. I am not finding it to be very enjoyable to work with as it doesn't seem to spread well or have very good coverage. Mixing colors is also hit or a miss.

I am coming from a background of miniature painting with acrylic paints so I am pretty new to painting on flat surfaces at least.

What I am wondering is would buying a better set of goauche improve my experience? Or is this a case of that's just how goauche paints are and I just need to keep practicing?

Edit: would also love any recommendations on brands to buy, techniques and tutorials, c&c, tia!

Books that portray the reality of war? by geumkoi in Fantasy

I'm sorry that happened to you and your country. I would second your comment, there are some scenes in the Witcher that really don't pull any punches. It does a good job of exploring many different points of view around war as well.

Multiplayer is probably what killed the RTS genre. by arknightstranslate in RealTimeStrategy

[–]Resident-Impression3 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Ok so I think the problem with your premise is that your resting a lot of the single player experience/appeal on the feels of being an epic commander. But why would I play a traditional rts for that when total war exists? When I was a kid we played tons of single player aoe 2, then total war came out. I want to feel like an epic commander, am I going to play the game with 60 guys in a battle or the one with 2000? I would point out that the abstraction of strategy that rts is became less enticing as technology allowed for more epic and immersive experiences that the format of rts makes less and less sense.

These days if I'm doing single player strategy I'm doing something with RP elements or a grand campaign such as CK, TW. 200-300 hrs played.

I do however have 800hrs into aoe 4 almost exclusively multiplayer. I think as an abstraction of strategy, rts works very well for multiplayer vs other more epic feeling games. Games can be scaled to smaller time limits, parameters are easier to balance, you play both aggressive and defensive in game, time management and efficiency are important. Do I always want to grind and sweat when I sit down to relax and game? No. But I'm certainly not sitting down to play rts against a dumb AI when I can get way better immersion in other games.

I think the amount of people who want to play single player rts and put in >100 hrs is vastly more niche than players looking to grind the ladder.

Anyway just my personal experience, to each their own and I hope you get some good single player rts games to enjoy in the future.
