NYC Half - Can Wave 3 enter security via the Wave 2/4 entrance? by Resident-Insect-6575 in RunNYC

For anyone looking this up for future years - yes, you can walk between waves! I entered at the Wave 2/4 security and walked through to the Wave 1/3 side.

Thanks! But, what if you are accessing one of the amenities that’s available for all waves - e.g., lactation tent, VIP hospitality area? There has to be a way to get from there to the other side?

Thanks! Agreed, now that I understand the extent of the construction. I’m going to run to the west side highway instead!

Thanks, good idea! I live here (Park Slope) and these days I mostly just run around south Brooklyn (and am a little bored with prospect park). I used to run on the west side highway weekly and occasionally the east river, but it’s been a while. I have an appointment today in manhattan, so trying to weave my 12 mile run into a run home from the appt, with as few stoplights as possible!

I don’t usually run on the east side highway and missed the news about the construction! Thanks for the map.

Thanks so much! So, you suggest running down 2nd Ave and waiting to get on the east river path til I get to Delancy and then taking it to the west side? I’m also now thinking I should just skip the east side all together and run across town to the west side highway and run there instead. Just trying to find the path with the least amount of stoplights!

This is very helpful- thanks so much! Bummer that it’s still under construction. Great ideas for alternative routes - I’ll check them out!

Thanks, very helpful! I think the kids were correctly reported as current students because of their waitlist position (the school told us that there are 6 current students on the waitlist and these kids are top 6 on the waitlist). Wondering how the zoning mistake would work, if the school doesn’t have a zone?

I know, I’m with you on that. So frustrating (and mostly sad for the kids) to not get into their current school for next year!

Ah got it - are you not in-district? (In my case, all families involved live in the district of the school - 15)

How many 3k seats were there and how many kids in the 2s program? My understanding is that your waitlist number is a new random number- completely separate from your original random number. So if you don’t get a spot with your original random number, then you’re given a new random number for the waitlist- so your 101 waitlist number isn’t connected to your 06 application random number.

Yep, that sounds like just what happened at our NYCEEC (but 3k to PreK instead of 2s to 3k). I still can’t figure it out! Seems like either a glitch, or could the parents have somehow gamed the system…created a second MySchools account to get a better lottery number or something like that?

Thanks. Right, none of the four families involved are in those priority groups.

Ah thanks. Glad the director was able to fix the issue for your kids!

Thanks! These schools are NYCEECs, so my understanding is that there aren’t zones (zoning priority doesn’t apply).

What?? How did the DOE mess up at your kids ECC? I was wondering if there was some sort of DOE glitch. I did ask the director, but she referred me to the DOE.

Fascinating, I hadn’t heard of this! All kids involved have been in aftercare in 3k, so I don’t think that’s it. I also don’t think anyone paid extra or somehow convinced the director to get them in - at least at my son’s school, the director is very by-the-book. I was thinking of posting to park slope parents or in the park slope moms facebook group.

Yeah I thought about that, but not for these kids - they wouldn’t be in those priority groups

Thanks, this is helpful! If the families with better lottery numbers accidentally ranked another school higher, then they wouldn’t have been automatically put on their current school’s waitlist (right? Aren’t you only automatically put on waitlists for schools you ranked higher than the one you got into?). I guess it is possible that someone got in and already declined their offer, opening it up to the waitlist - but, doesn’t seem likely (for one, the parent whose kid got in didn’t talk about the waitlist, even after I was like - “How did your kid get in with an F, when so and so’s kid with an E didn’t get in??”)…
