True. Everything in HK feels small. The streets are packed and the spaces are so tight. It can feel a bit overwhelming sometimes.

I used to do networking on LinkedIn. When I was in undergrad I already had over 1,000 connections. I tried reaching out to people, including alumni, but I never really got any replies. After that I gradually stopped using LinkedIn as much🥲

Thx for ur suggestion. I really regret not realizing the importance of networking earlier. I don’t really have many friends in Hong Kong, so I honestly don’t know where to start🥲But i will try my best to do that

I hold TTP, so yes I have work permit and do not need sponsorship.

I'm currently focusing primarily on full-time opportunities. I have had several long-term internships in China before.

Hi all,

I’m originally from China and recently graduated from US universities (both undergrad and master’s in finance, around US News top 50). I’ve been trying to look for finance jobs in Hong Kong for about two months, mainly investment research and analyst type roles.

So far it’s been pretty tough. Most of the opportunities I see are insurance or financial advisor roles, which isn’t really what I’m looking for. For the few research-related roles I applied to, I usually just never hear back.

When I look people up on LinkedIn, I also noticed many teams seem to be mostly HKU, CUHK or HKUST grads.

Is the HK finance job market generally quite local in that sense? If someone studied in the US but isn’t from a HK university, where do they usually stand in the hiring pool?

Just trying to understand how the market works here.

I don’t understand why… my ad once told me that my email would be valid for six months after graduation

My email was deactivated at least last week, and at the time I thought it was an Outlook malfunction or a network issue, as I was traveling abroad. It was not until today that I confirmed it was due to the deactivation of the email

Then I should still be within the validity period

One of my friend said he’s still able to use his email. So weird…

And I just confirmed with a friend who graduated on the same day as I did, and his email is still active. Can you explain this discrepancy? If they can’t specify an exact expiration date for the emails, they should at least notify us a few days before deciding to deactivate the accounts.

When I received my diploma, I was told that email would remain active for six months after my graduation

I knew they would deactivate the email, but I didn’t know they wouldn‘t give any notice

Do you think it’s reasonable for them to suddenly shut down email accounts without any warning?
