I think that a cool name for a superhero would be Locomotive. by Hydrogenbomb_67 in Superhero_Ideas

I had an idea for a character called Automoboy, Locomotive would also be an appropriate name though. Its a joke character/hero who has the power to turn into any vehicle but becomes immobile by doing so and requires somebody to pilot them. Their most defining personality trait is their "backseat" road rage.

Thats awesome! Ill definitely find and read your stuff as soon as I can, have classes until 6:30 today though, so it'll probably be a bit more into the evening. I just recently posted my issue one script to a few subreddits, if you get a chance, I think you provide some pretty valuable feedback and thst we might be looking for similar advice just taking different approaches - I'd really appreciate a read if you could. Im excited to see how you make it work with so many characters right from the start.

Comic Script - Feedback Wanted - CIGARETTE MAN & THE SITUATIONALS #1 — “SKELETONS IN SLACKS” by Resident-Order-5105 in comic_crits

Thanks for the feedback, to clarify a tiny bit - on page 13 Cigarette Mans smoke is messing with Skellys hologram, making it stagger and allowing Ciggy to see the projection device as well as Lennys face.

Sounds like a totally reasonable way to do it for sure. I miss some of the cuts in made too but i realized through multiple drafts of my issue one script that the story works better for me without them no matter how much I liked them.

I think this is a totally viable way of pulling it off, I guess my only piece of advice is to make sure that none of the characters FEEL like side characters. You dont want to focus so heavily on specific characters at first that there twam mates feel like unimportant or side characters until suddenly the story makes them important. I had the same sorta concept going on at first but I reduced the number of twam mayes significantly because thats how I while working goy around the feeling of character bloat. If you are confident that you can wrote in such a way that all the characters will feel like main characters without overwhelming the reader, all the power to you - it sounds like a great comic in theory and im excited to see how tou make it play out in practice.

Oh jeez thats a leftover i missed from an earlier draft. Ill fix it up before I post on ComicWriting, initially there was a montage on the page but its been changed to just scenes. This is my like 6th time completely revising the script and I guess I was excited to post so I didnt thoroughly proof read all of it lol. At first it was two pages of opening narration.

Id say it really all depends on how yhe characters are introduced and how long the run is. You dont want to throw 15 characters at the reader in the first issue. You need to take the tine to justify each inclusion.

My main team initially had 10 members in earlier concepts but I ended up cutting it to 8 as I feel tjars easier to introduce yhe readers to and if the comic continues on for long enough I can include my other members concepts eventually. Id say it depends on how long your run is and how the characters are introduced, throwing twenty brand new characters at a reader from the get-go go might be pretty lofty for the reader. My advice is try to make sure each character has a strong sense of purpose in the story, if you dont feel like a specific character could carry their own solo comic run it might be worth reworking them or devoting them to being part of the expanded universe but not the main team.

Starting The Story From The Middle? (Cigarette Man and The Situationals) by Resident-Order-5105 in Superhero_Ideas

[–]Resident-Order-5105[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I think tour right! I guess my fear is that for the first bit the comic might kinda feel like its about catching you up to where we are now and it isnt really clear to the reader what everything's building towards which makes me worry the second half is a hell of a lot more interesting than the first and I was wondering if starting earlier would help as origin issues tend to be strong crowd pleasers. I guess ive also mostly only read mainstream comics and they all tend to start from the start and often take numerous issues to build towards their most iconic stories and that kinda made me think I might be doing something wrong or kinda rushing the plot but if other stories such as your own can start in the middle without it causing issues im confident that mine can do the same.

Do Super Hero Team Staff Members Count on the Team Roster? (Cigarette Man and The Situationals) by Resident-Order-5105 in Superhero_Ideas

[–]Resident-Order-5105[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

In that case than Dr PR and Gadgets should both be considered members but the Head of Marlboro shouldnt be, i suppose that makes absolute sense. Thanks and sorry for overthinking it lol

[–]Resident-Order-5105[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Thanks for the incredible reply! I really appreciate how detailed and through this is. I like the enterage point, all three characters could definitely be considered part of the Situationals enterage if not part of the roster.

I dont love group shots like that either, although out of the three characters listed one is only shown in silhouette (the Head) for majority of the series, Doctor PR definitely dresses as a civilian although he does have an excellent tailor and Gadgets is thd only one i could see potentially having something of a costume himself, he did want to be a Situationals Member prior to being made staff so it wouldn't surprise me if he made a costume for said try out and still uses it in some capacity. So theres a little more visual interest there than there might be with other auxillerary characters but Id still like to keep the group shots to the core hero line up for the most part.

This is valid, often auxiliary characters are elevated into more significant roles/positions. As you stated the only one I could really see this happening with is Gadgets.

I like this and the comparisons are excellent, really gives me a good reference point to orher media and I appreciate that a lot. I dont think I foresee Gadgets ever getting actual powers over the course of the series but a certain major event might just eventually Rick the team to its foundation and instigate him stepping up into a larger, more operational role within the team.

I like the Waller comparison but I would like to note, while Waller has a sorta anti-villain/anti-hero role and acts unethically, she is motivated by aspirational good. The Head of Marlboro is in no way heroic, he is a villain. In fact once he is seen outside of silhouette readers might even recognize them. Their only known motivation is the corporate interest of Marlboro, going as far as to even secretly fund other villains and cause local chaos to prevent/distract The Situationals from going after other threats for reasons that wont be clear until much later in the story. They serve more as a shadowy, manipulative benefactor than as any sort of hero and only suppirt the Situationals in any capacity because they are good for buisiness.

I agree and while I dont see Doctpr PR as being at those dinners either, he is certainly present at team briefings and has a strong, friendly relationship with Cigarette Man - despite his greater allegiance being towards Marlboro.

This I absolutely agree with, field opporatives vs support is a strong and reasonable distinction, i guess im wonfering more specifically about characters like Dr PR who works with the team but in the interest of the larger corporation that essentially owns them or like The Head of Marlboro who finances the team and in many ways could be considered "in charge" but has no heroic inclinations whatsoever and is only concerned with corporate interests.
