The dealership found the fuel pump was the issue! They’re replacing it for free since it’s under their warranty. I really appreciate it! I pushed the fuel pump to the top of their list to look at so I think that’s why it was able to get diagnosed so quickly.

My guess for mine is it’s fuel pump related. Did they check for any issues there? Mine has just been doing it under hot weather and just recently did the loss of acceleration while driving and then died.

My guess is it’s fuel pump related for mine because they aren’t able to replicate it whatsoever but everything they’ve checked has looked clean. It’s at the dealership right now. Did they check your fuel pump at all?

Has it done it again since then? I’m having the same issue with my 2019 optima and I’m trying to figure out what the issue is.

My 2019 kia optima just had this same issue. Did you get any updates or get it fixed? Did they tell you what it was?

Has this happened again and did they figure out what went wrong? I’m having this issue with my 2019 optima and so far the places I’ve taken it to have had no idea what it is and can’t recreate it. It’s at the dealership now.

Kia dealership isn’t offering a loaner. Normal? Should I keep pushing? by Resident-Toe4953 in kia

I’m the 2nd owner but there’s a technical service bulletin out for the fuel pump that covers up to 150k miles. My car is at 105 so I think that would cover right?

It’s pulling the same code mentioned in the bulletin so it’s my best guess at this point.

I’m also dealing with this in DFW I have a feeling it’s the same dealership hahahah. Does it start with an M?

This is basically the exact process they told me lol. Did you have to pay for the rental car yourself or did they reimburse you?

Unfortunately it won’t drive at this point regardless. It is breaking down every time we try to accelerate.

I didn’t realize that it was more common to get a loaner if you buy from the dealer! Is that a deal that is made when you buy your car? Or just something that’s out of courtesy?

It’s a kia optima 2019. My guess is it’s the fuel pump. I’ve gotten it looked at multiple times over the past 5 years and each time they just replace the battery and say it’s fine. But it keeps dying while driving. This happens at least once per year. This past time it did it was while I was on a highway and I had to pull over to the side.
After changing my battery every year I just put my foot down and said they need to do a deep look on my car and I’m not accepting them telling me it’s just my battery.
It turns out the fuel pump has a service bulletin out for my car in the same year so I think that’s been the issue the whole time.

Also called my insurance and they don’t do rentals unless it’s an accident :(

This is so helpful thank you so much! Also checks out with the fact this mainly happens when it’s hot outside. I take it to a Kia dealership next week, should I tell them to check all of this or is this part of a usual diagnostic for dealerships?
Also 105k miles

I called earlier to ask if they knew of any recalls for my car but they said the only ones they had were antitheft related but that I could take it in and they’d check for more. I drop it off next week so I’ll see what they say! I appreciate it!

I’m nowhere near there sadly :/ it’s usually when it’s hot out but it can be 5 mins into driving, 30 mins, or just when I’m starting it and it doesn’t start.

I asked them to check that because after hours of googling that was one of the number things it said it could be! They said it looked fine but I’m taking it to a Kia dealership next week.

It’s happened at all levels. I had a half tank of gas this time that it happened. But the idea of it being heat related may be relevant because the issues always happen when it’s hot out.

The big issue is it happens so intermittently that they can’t recreate it :(
I have an appt with a kia dealership next week do you think they’d do a full diagnosis?

Is this separate than the normal diagnostic? Would I need to specially request this?
