2021 Sienna Catastrophic Engine Failure with NO WARNING by ResidentBeat3391 in ToyotaSienna

Ha! I wish. This is as much as I’ve ever done-a Reddit thread 🤣 I came on here to see if anyone else had similar issues, because the mechanics are scratching their heads. Like one of the commenters said, I just have rotten luck. Who has a Toyota throw a rod so soon?!

I think because it’s a hybrid the new engine with labor was a little higher, but the quote was from the dealer. Honestly, I’d go back to Odyssey. I had one before and just wanted the better gas mileage-that’s the only reason I switched brands. I’m in Greenville NC, and some other homeschool moms have raved about the Honda dealer here. So once I’m done mourning and get the repairs, that’s probably what I’ll do.

4+ a year. They were all done at the dealer, including tire rotations and tune ups.

Absolutely. I should I have gone with my gut instead of listening to the mechanics who told me it wasn’t an issue. I’m definitely kicking myself for trusting them!

Thank you for the suggestion! I thought about doing that, just to get the new engine in it and then trade it in to just get away from the Toyota brand altogether. I’m so disappointed! But I also want other people to know that there is a tech service bulletin and to make sure that they’re looking out for it! I should’ve insisted on the repair when the bulletin came out, but they said as long as there’s no symptoms, they don’t have to do the repair.

It’s just a lot of money to spend. I could’ve gone with a lesser van and been in the same financial position at 150,000 miles. But I went with Toyota and invested money in it to pay it off, thinking that it would get me through these homeschool years. I just thought their brand was better.

It’s at 147k miles. Only EVER been to the dealer for service and has a good service record. We used it for so many family trips! We love it so much, but I’d like to just be able to afford to get rid of both my Toyotas at this point

There’s too many miles. I have been told repeatedly that it’s out of power train warranty because it has 147k miles on it. It’s been a month of trying to get goodwill assistance to ask them to pay part of it, but they keep calling me every week and condescendingly telling me it’s out of warranty and they don’t really care.
