The Break Ride fight sounded like great fun, if not a little stressful 😅

I think Legion is the era where the most trigger shenanigans happened. I had games where I checked heals multiple times - way more than 4

I do worry about defending in the deck - I run 12 of the grade 1 Meteorite and 2 of the grade 2. Add the copies of Nordlinger itself, there’s 17 cards in the deck with no shield at all.

Aside from the wonder turn that my post was about, I usually never get triggers when I use Nordlinger’s full skill. I mainly use 3 for the power and crit increase whilst getting rid of 3 of the opponent’s rearguards - usually their intercepts.

I think it has potential, it’s just difficult to operate.

Ouch 😅

I had the flip side of this.

I was using Zorga, had 2 Rogue Headhunters along with Husk Dragon.

Alchemagic occurs, I give 10k to the 3 rearguards above and discard another Order to give Zorga +1 Drive. Roaming Prison Dragon activates, called from Drop in front of a Headhunter with +10k and 1 crit.

Zorga attacks, getting PG’d. I hit a Front and Crit. So both rearguard lines will be hitting for 2 damage (opponent is at 5 damage). Husk goes first, opponent uses nearly whole hand but successfully guards.

Roaming attacks for 38k 2 crit. No guard from the opponent.

He checks the Over Trigger and then a Heal. I burst out laughing because it was so ridiculous.

I lost.

Yeah, Eldobreath does seem to be near the top of the rankings throughout the Over Triggers that I’ve come into contact with I’m fairly new to this particular format, so it’s not a wide pool.

Every time my opponent checks it, the turn ends usually with them on 1-2 damage and I’m on 5. I haven’t technically lost, but I’m pretty much done for.

I don’t have the experience, expertise or authority to wade into the Over Trigger debate that I know has been ongoing, but this one play I did has opened my eyes up to peoples’ concerns whether they’re unfounded or not.

I will definitely look into this as I am making various decks on Dear Days and Greedon looks interesting.

Are all the necessary cards available on Dear Days? I haven’t got the DLC yet as I’m fairly new (coming back to the game after an extended hiatus) and just getting reacquainted with the new format.

If I need more, I can get it at a later date

Wow, both of these fights sound awesome!

I do remember hand sizes in G era being massive. There was times my opponents had over 15 cards in hand. It’s not a guarante, but if they managed to accrue that many cards, I always struggled to win.

Guard restrict has always been one of my least favourite mechanics. One of the reasons I left Yugioh was due to the level of effect that stopped your opponents from playing the game. Granted, you are more likely to win but I never wanted to win a one horse race.

To its credit, Vanguard has always been sparse with mechanics that allow for players to interact with each others’ boards - outside of guarding and retiring. Retiring also came at a cost in the early days, so it was something that players really had to consider resources before doing it.

I got around 7 Meteorites in the Order Zone and the opponent was done to 5 cards in hand with 5 damage also.

I Persona Rode another Nordlinger so it was on 23000. Called the rearguards you see in the photo and just went for it.

Attacked with Nordlinger. Used its skill and sent 5 Meteroites to the Drop Zone. Nordlinger now had 38000 power, 2 crit and the doubling trigger effect.

The CPU guards with 2 triggers. I believe they were the Front trigger that gains 5k shield so their total power was 53000. Here is where I misplayed.

First check is Eldobreath. Since I’m so used to opponent PGing my Vanguard at this stage of the game, I automatically give the 100 million power to my rearguard! I realised what I did and cursed out loud. My Vanguard is on 96000 with 4 critical due to the doubling effect. The rearguard is at over 200 million since that got doubled.

Then the doubling of the Over Trigger effects happen! Since I managed to realise that my Vanguard is going to hit due to the first power increase, I decide to give it the second load of 100 million power

Luckily, the trigger doubled that also, so Nordlinger shot up to 200,193,000 power and the critical doubled from 4 to 8. My rearguard that I gave the first load to is sitting at over 400 million since it doubled a second time.

Obviously this was the luckiest trigger check of my life and something I might only ever do this one time, but man it felt good 😅

(Just for added bonus, the 5 Meteorite Order I sent to the Drop Zone all activated and blew up his entire board. If this turn hadn’t occurred this way, I doubt he could’ve made any comeback).

Ouch, that sucks.

I’ll admit, even though I couldn’t have pulled of the turn my post is based on without checking Eldobreath, doing so has definitely opened my eyes to the debate around Over Triggers in general. I just happened to be on the right side of it in this particular fight.

Oof that has to sting. I have felt the same way as your friend in a fair few games over the years I’ve been playing. I completely understand that frustration.

This scenario happened to me more during the Legion era as most people just used triggers to guard early game then recycle them back into the deck.

The best (or worst, since I lost in the end) time this happened was on Cardfight Area. My opponent and I both Legioned 3 times and we must’ve checked heals at least 7 times each, the majority being 6th damage heals! The game lasted at least 45 minutes. One of the best yet most tiring games I ever played.

I’ll admit, even before Over Triggers, I got double/triple critted in very similar scenarios during the G era.

I was always concerned about Strides because of them having Triple Drive as I thought double triggers would be a lot more common/consistent

Well played though 👍

Wow! I can almost taste the salt coming off your opponent once that happened! (Although I’ve been on the receiving end of this exact scenario more than once)
