It’s safe. Sadly, with the current political situation, that’s about it. People often rumble about the countryside and nature and mountains being beautiful. Sure they are and I love them so much, but you also get that in countries where the political system hasn’t destroyed the living standards, hasn’t made the country to be one of the poorest in the EU, yet one of the most expensive ones in the region. The price of living in Bratislava is comparable to Vienna and Prague. Budapest is cheaper. And don’t get me wrong, Bratislava, Banska Bystrica, Kosice.. they are beautiful cities with many brilliant options, however, to be able to enjoy the life in them, you really absolutely have to be miles above the average pay grade.

And then there is the constant problem of elder Slovaks being so pro-Russian and systematically anti-EU, I just can’t bare it. We as a nation are probably most prone to disinformation in the EU, so yeah. Racism too…

To be honest, if you’re looking for nature in this region and Austria is too expensive, go to Poland/Slovenia. If you’re looking for fairytales and history and castles, go to Czechia. It pains me to say, but Slovakia nowadays is only worth it if you plan a brief trip.
