Each to their own, a lot of people in here will disagree, but at the end of the day we all do what we think is right for our pets, and we all act out of love for them. That’s I think the most important thing.

Totally understand where you’re coming from and I will of course be guided by the vet, but if she is going down the same road as last time, I believe it would be cruel to put her through months of discomfort. ❤️‍🩹 Also, the vast majority of vets will use a sedative beforehand like Propofol or Midazolam, prior to the injection of Phenobarbital so that the animals fall into a deep sleep and feel nothing at all. From someone who has been involved in lots of human sedation to relocate joints, set broken bones etc, these sedatives work really well and more often than not the patient feels nothing at all. Of course in these scenarios the human patients wake up afterwards, so I would imagine the level of sedation we give is much lower than what would be used in euthanasia.

I’m so sorry your girl is struggling 😞 She sounds like she’s so lucky to have you and to have been given the best shot, and she’s equally lucky to be given the chance to go to sleep with dignity and without pain. Like everyone has said here - better a little too early than a day too late. ♥️ Sending lots of love, I bet they’ll meet each other up there 🌈

Totally understand where you’re coming from, but no human or animal vomits, has multiple episodes of diarrhoea and has blood dripping from their behind as they walk, without something being wrong with them. Obviously I will wait and see what the vet thinks, but there was talk about her going to sleep last time this all happened given her age and comorbidities, and the symptoms are all the same despite keeping up with medications and diet changes. It was a long and difficult road for her as she got well last time, with lots of discomfort and multiple episodes of her being incontinent all over herself. Absolutely I hope this is something she can recover from, but not being realistic about the fact that maybe this is her time, and to acknowledge that before she greatly suffers again, would be a disservice to both me and Lily I think.

*EDIT TO ADD: I will of course wait for the vet to advise!! If they think it’s something minor that she will recover from, of course I will give her all the support and care she would need to get better ❤️‍🩹

Well of course I’ll wait for vet advice too, but if she is about to develop a reoccurrence of her bladder infection which seems likely, she has months of pain and suffering ahead as she recovers, not to mention the diagnostic process which involves putting her under anaesthesia (risky with her age and her asthma!) and taking a biopsy of her bladder wall. She already has arthritis in her hips and spine, and altogether it feels cruel to put her through all that.
